UN 50th Anniversary Exhibition at GAU

A photo exhibition which was organized by the TRNC Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the 50th anniversary of the United Nations (UN) Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus was opened to visitors at the Girne American University (GAU) Architecture, Design and Fine Arts Faculty Exhibition Hall.

The “50 year old Story – UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus” exhibition which displays 42 photos portraying the last 50 years of Cyprus, was opened with the Dean of the Architecture Department - Hossein Sadri and Director of Information Department - Mustafa Ergülen cutting the ribbon.

The opening ceremony which was held at the exhibition hall of GAU Architecture, Design and Fine Arts Faculty was attended by Director of Information Department - Mustafa Ergülen.

The Head Dean of the Girne American University of Architecture, Design and Fine Arts Faculty Hossein Sadri stated that - "The exhibition is about the UN`s 50th anniversary on the island. In fact, it reveals the story of 50 years. I thank our Ministry of Foreign Affairs for moving this exhibition to our university.”

The Information Department Director - Mustafa Ergülen expressed in his speech at the opening of the exhibition that the main objective of the exhibition is to show the presence of UN troops on the island and highlight how long this problem is based on the past and stated that – “We wanted to highlight that the Cyprus problem did not begin in 1974 as often believed but began in 1960 and is more than an issue that has been squeezed into 40 years. On the other hand, we stated that the Cyprus problem, which is based on the half-century and with a 50-year history, should be terminated.”

“We have come to universities because there are many students from other countries and Turkey and many of them are not aware of the problem of Cyprus, or they have incomplete information. Our goal is creating this awareness. I thank Girne American University for giving us this opportunity. This exhibition will give everyone a visual enjoyment. I hope it reaches its aim."

It is stated by GAU that the exhibition will remain open until Wednesday and will be open to the public.
