Edifice as Xenia and Architect as a Puzzled Firgure against Global Problems
Opening speach of 2012-2013 GAU Friday Seminars was held on Friday 2nd of November in GAU Millennium Senate Congress Hall. CEO of GAU Dr. Asım Vehbi, Vice Rectore Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sadık Ülker, GAU General Secretary Dr. Sualp Davut, Acting Dean of Faculty of Architecture, Design and Fine Arts Asst. Prof. Dr. Hossein Sadri, the Head of Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Architects Azmi Öge, first seminar speaker Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Çetin, heads of departments, acdemic and administrative staff and also GAU students has been participated in the openning ceremony and also the first GAU semniar. The title of the first seminar was Edifice as Xenia and Architect as a Puzzled Firgure against Global Problems.
In his speach, tackling the discipline of architecture as a phenomenon responding to the problems of the world, Dr. Çetin addressed architecture in association with the notion of ’hosting’. The ’act of building’ which is associated with the idea of ’hospitality’ particularly considering its relationship with the nature and topography or with loci in general has been discussed. The talk primarily questioned the position of architecture in relation to the global problems that the world has been facing, such as accomodation, hunger, poverty, inequality, pollution etc..
