Impact of Education and Research programmes in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) | The Faculty of Medicine at Girne American University contributes significantly to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through its education, research, and community engagement initiatives. Curricula focus on evidence-based medicine, ethical considerations, and global health—clearly in alignment with SDG 3 (Good Health & Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education). Under the guidance of professionals in fields like Medical Microbiology, Medical Biology and Genetics, Physiology, and Biochemistry in an interdisciplinary curriculum, the faculty provides students with both know-how and values that fit into a sustainable, equal society. Key research programs address major health issues such as infectious diseases, regenerative medicine, molecular diagnostics, and preventative healthcare – aiding progress towards SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). Partnerships with hospitals, public institutions, and international collaborations facilitate health equity, ethical research, and the translation of scientific knowledge for the benefit of society. Under the direction of the Faculty, the Centre of Excellence in Education, Training, and Research (CEETR) will amplify this impact by contributing to cutting-edge teaching strategies and methods fostering digital transformation and inclusive education practices compatible with SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). In combination, these educational and research advances are helping to position GAU’s Faculty of Medicine as a regional driver of sustainable development, creating healthier communities, increasing scientific awareness, and furthering the United Nations’ global agenda through responsive and progressive medical education. |
