Girne American University is committed to creating a greener, smarter, and more responsible campus through its vision of “UniGreen - Eco Smart University.” The 2025-2029 strategic plan strengthens this commitment by defining institutional goals in research, impact, quality assurance, digital transformation, and environmental responsibility. Sustainability at GAU focuses on fostering a campus community that is fully aware of its environmental impact and integrates sustainable practices into teaching, research, and all aspects of daily campus life.

 

Girne American University’s sustainability approach is built on four core principles:


1. Green Campus Development

Girne American University aims to enhance its natural environment by expanding green areas, promoting pedestrian-friendly spaces, and supporting biodiversity across campus.

2. EcoSmart Operations

The university is working toward more efficient and responsible use of energy, water, and resources, alongside the promotion of recycling, waste reduction and management, and cleaner operational as well as production and consumption practices.

3. Education & Research for Sustainability

Sustainability is reflected in courses, programs, and research that address climate change, renewable energy, environmental design, and sustainable development across disciplines.

4. Collaboration & Community Engagement

Girne American University strengthens sustainability through partnerships with local and international organizations, student involvement, and campus-wide green initiatives.
