DEAN'S MESSAGE
Dear Students,
Welcome to the Faculty of Law at Girne American University, one of the most established universities in Northern Cyprus. Since its foundation, our Faculty has proudly educated thousands of lawyers and has earned recognition as one of the country’s leading law schools. Our story began in 1998 with the International Law Program, the first of its kind in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, offering legal education in English. In 2010, we expanded with our accredited Turkish Law Program, and together these programs have built an institution known both locally and internationally for its legal education and research.
What makes our Faculty unique among law schools in Turkey and Northern Cyprus is not only what we teach but how we teach. We believe that legal education is not just about learning rules and articles of law. It is about developing a sense of justice, a commitment to ethical values, and an awareness of social responsibility.
We know that your families have entrusted you to us, and we take this responsibility very seriously. Within our Faculty, every student is equally valued. We work hard to create a safe, supportive, and peaceful environment where you can learn, grow, and thrive.
Like the rest of the world, we are also facing rapid changes. These changes push us to adapt, to renew ourselves, and to keep our vision alive. With dedicated faculty members, strong facilities, helpful administrative staff, and above all, with the honesty, discipline, and determination of our students, we aim to build a strong community together.
For us, studying law is not only about preparing for a profession—it is also about shaping your identity and your stance in life. A lawyer is not simply someone who reads the law or argues cases; a true lawyer is someone who can balance defense and accusation, who examines every step of the process with fairness, and who strives to represent the conscience of justice. That is the kind of lawyer we hope you will become.
Here in Northern Cyprus, you will find not only an excellent education but also a peaceful atmosphere, a democratic culture, and an environment that will broaden your vision in ways books alone cannot. Studying in such a multicultural and international setting will give you friendships, experiences, and perspectives that will serve you well—no matter where you choose to practice law in the future.
