Largest National Park Project of Cyprus Workshop by GAU

GAU, during its 30th Anniversary in the 2014/2015 Academic Year, continues to fulfil its social responsibility.

 

The design workshop relevant to the Alsancak Freedom National Park Project that is going to become Cyprus’s natural and public sphere was carried out with the partnership of the GAU Faculty of Architecture and Alsancak Municipality. 10 teaching staff and 40 students from the GAU Faculty of Architecture attended at the workshop held in the Alsancak- Milos region. Also the famous architecture critic and award-winning designer - Kenan Güvenç attended the workshop as a guest executive and the coordinator task was taken by the GAU Architecture Department lecturer and the English Architecture Program Coordinator - Hassina Nafa.  During the first day of the workshop the area was visited and advice on the walkways, service areas, play areas, plants and the enclosures for animals were studied.  Assist. Prof. Dr. Balkız Yapıcıoğlu, Dr. Alessandro Camiz, Dr. Cem Yardımcı, Ziya Buluç, Fodei Conteh and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Senem Zeybekoğlu Sadri attended as executives and the suggestions were presented on 10 sheets which were exhibited at the town square for the opinion of the people in Alsancak.

 

The Alsancak Municipality Mayor - Fırat Ataser and GAU Faculty of Architecture Dean Assoc. Dr. Hossein Sadri attended the opening of the exhibition and extended their thanks to the participants and gave information about the cooperation.

 

The information shared that the Alsancak Freedom National Park Project conducted by the GAU Faculty of Architecture and the Alsancak Municipality was prepared based on the suggestions made at the workshop and in accordance with the opinions of the people in Alsancak, will be implemented in 2015.

 

After the opening speeches, the executive academic members and the attending students were presented with their participation certificates by the Alsancak Municipality Mayor and municipal council members and the GAU Faculty of Architecture Dean.
