HCM501 - Health Care SystemA course on international health care systems. The course utilizes Roemer’s Model of Health Systems to examine resource allocation, management and health outcomes. The structure and functioning of national health systems based on geographic location and governance in developing and developed countries (democracies, monarchies and communist nations). Resource allocation across the continuum of nations and relationship to national health needs, health status and longevity are examined.
MGMT503 - Organizational TheoryAnalysis of modern management theories. Development of organisations and problems of leadership posed by organisational structures. Dynamics of organisational behaviour and relationship to effective administration. Models of communication, motivation, and leadership.
HCM502 - Managing Health Care OrganizationsThis course is intended for graduate students and is about learning how to manage in health care organizations (HCOs). At the end of this course, students will understand; How health services are governed and organized, particularly in non-profit organizations, How health care organizations assess and adapt to change, How performance control systems work in HCOs, constraints/opportunities in shaping organizational performance and managerial careers, use of evidence-based management in health care. Students will also learn to manage themselves better with others on team projects, and improve their critical thinking and their skills in written and oral communication.
HCM504 - Human Resources Management in Health CareThis course provides students with the basic skills and application of human resource management in the health care delivery field. It discuss the current issues in human resource management in healthcare, such as employee turnover, training quality employees, achieving higher quality with greater efficiency delivering health care services, recruiting and managing a diverse workforce.
MGMT500 - Research MethodsIntroduction to fundamentals of Research Methods and their applications in the management areas. Special emphasis will be placed of effective report and thesis writing and examples of good practice will be presented.
MGMT502 - Strategic ManagementThis course enables students to understand the issues and challenges faced by managers responsible for strategic management. It introduces students to concepts and methodological approaches and tools relevant to the analysis of the strategic position of the organization. The course teaches students how to develop and implement strategies and policies, and their major operational implications.
HCM506 - Marketing and Comparative Strategy in Health CareThis course explores the application of marketing theories to health care industry. Emphasis is placed on methodologies for developing organizational strategic plans using the marketing approach.
STAT500 - Statistics for ManagersThe aim of this course is to familiarize students with the concepts and techniques in
statistics. To enhance the analytical skills of students to interpret data and to produce
information for decision making in functional areas of business and economics. To help
students think statistically and to motivate students to study furthers in areas of
challenge offered by statistics.
HCM508 - Quality Improvement in Health CareAn introduction to the process of quality improvement in health care organizations. The
purpose of this course is to acquaint students with the principles of quality assessment,
quality assurance, continuous quality improvement, and the measurement of health
status and patient satisfaction. It is anticipated that students will complete the course
with knowledge of how to measure and improve quality in health care organizations.
HCM510 - Long-term Care AdministrationThe course provides a comprehensive overview of programs, policies, and services and
examines the issues, challenges and dilemmas confronting long term care management
and others in the field of health services.
HCM503 - Health Care Law & EthicsThis interdisciplinary course will explore interconnections among ethics, law and health care by examining classic legal-medical ethics cases, legal rules and ethical principles, controversial issues such as access to health care, beginning of life issues, patients’ rights, end-of-life issues, disorders of consciousness, and organ transplantation. Special attention will be given to ethical conflicts, as well as the roles of ethics consultants and ethics committees.
HCM512 - Special Topics In Healthcare ManagementThe identification and study of current economic, regulatory, or operation issues impacting the health care industry. The use of both written and oral reports to present analysis of selected topics
HCM514 - Health Policy And PoliticsThis course will explore the policies, institutions, and political factors that explain the unequal distribution of health and disease in the world. The course will cover the key concepts in global health policy, measurement of health status, burden of disease, key epidemiological concepts, health system performance, and cost-effectiveness, the Millennium Development Goals, modes of health care financing, addressing the shortage of human resources for health, and improving health service quality.
HCM516 - Health Insurance and Risk ManagementThis course focuses on existing and emerging insurance products in the health care system and the impact of these products upon provider managements. It also covers the risk management concepts and their application to health policy and health service. Topics include: Individual financial management of economic losses caused by premature death, disability, and old age; functional aspects of life-health insurer management.
HCM505 - Approach in Wellness and Health PromotionThis course addresses aging related problems from the biopsychosocial domains through creating strength-based interventions that capitalize on the older person’s existing skills, resources, and adaptive capacities. By integrating concepts from various disciplines such as aging theories, health promotion and wellness, as well as management and leadership in aging services, the course attempts to prepare the student to deal with the above described problems on an individual (micro) as well as systems (macro) levels.
HCM518 - Global Health SystemsThis course is designed as a survey course for all students interested in the intersection of International Affairs and Global Health. Pressing global health issues are analyzed as they interested with security, international development, global economy, human rights, and conflict management. It also provides a systematic comparative analysis of the evolution, administrative structure, finance, and provision of medical care in selected countries throughout the world.
CMN528 - Effective CommunicationThe basic aim and contents of the course are designed as: To transmit the pre- identified message to the target audience in the manner desired, to arise the expected reaction in the target audience by means of a consciously planned activity. The subjects to be taught incorporate the following: variants that affect communication skills directly, basic knowledge that is instrumental in the success of the communicative endeavour, failures in communication, verbal / non- verbal communication, the place and importance of body language in effective communication.
CMN531 - Media and Public OpinionInterrelation between media and society will be taken for granted during the course. Public opinion concept will be explained; its importance for the political regimes and mass media’s role at the formation of public opinion will be explored by giving sample events.
FIBA500 - Financial ManagementBasic principles and analytical techniques relating to corporate financial management. Topics include overall financial analysis, planning, and control; sources and funds; capital; operational and financial leverages; working capital management; inventory and portfolio management; long-term investment decisions; timing of financial policy. This course is part of the graduate core.
FIBA503 - Financial Statement AnalysisEvaluation techniques of financial statements. Application of analytical methods to serve financial management needs such as ratio analysis, percentage analysis and preparing common size statements, cash flow analysis, fund flow analysis and new techniques and interpretations of results.
MARK500 - Marketing ManagementThe scope of marketing management. Organizing the marketing function. Establishing marketing objectives. Buyer behaviour and market segmentation. ECON500 - Economics for Business ManagementMicroeconomic environment of business: The working of competitive markets. Demand and supply. Products, markets cost and revenue. Profit maximization under perfect and imperfect competition. The firm in the factor market. Government, firm and market. Macroeconomic environment of business: National income, employment and inflation, international trade, the balance of payments, exchange rates, money and interest, economic ideas, Keynesian and Monetarist expiations of business activity.
FINA500 - Money, Banking & Financial MarketsTo provide the students wıth a fundamental understanding of the importance, functions and role of money and the banking system within the economy. After studying this course, students will be able to; understand the role and functions of money, commercial banks, the Central Bank and in general the Public; understand the relationship among money, interest rates, business cycles, inflation and unemployment; analyze the relevant economic variables to conclude and recommend on the essential expansionary / contractionary policies.
ISMA500 - Management Information SystemsThis course will establish the role of information systems in organisations and how they relate to organisational objectives and organisational structure. Basic concepts, covered in depth in subsequent courses, are introduced: the systems point of view and organisation, information flows, and the nature of information systems. Students will gain a knowledge of the basic techniques and skills in representing system structure.
