Development, success and future process of GAU “Education and Success”

GAU Founding Rector and Chancellor of the Board - Serhat Akpınar, attended the Education and Success program of CNN TURK hosted by Ece Karaboncuk within the scope Girne American University Promotion Days. In the program, where development, success and the future process of GAU was discussed, the TRNC was also introduced.

Akpınar, "GAU is a Higher Education Institution which commenced the University Movement in the Island." 

Akpınar answered questions related to the establishment years and development process of GAU: "We were taught to dream big during our educational  life. There were no universities on the island in 1985. In those years when I was overseas, my college thesis was on establishing a university. Between 1984-1985, we established our university with the decision of the Council of Ministers. We are preparing to be a university without international borders in the next 30 years, as a higher education institution that embodies world citizens within and as a higher education institution which started the university movement on the island with the vision of  world class on the eve of our 30th year. We began to take steps from 3 continents, 1 university to the whole world. Lastly, we have begun to take steps with the European Union countries, installing a university in Moldova. Girne American University will take its place with a new education system in the world for the next 30 years.”

Akpınar, "GAU Canterbury, is at a University’s state that can award Diplomas with Its own Accreditations.” 

Akpınar, statement regarding GAU Canterbury, which is located in Canterbury, England: "GAU Canterbury has been established with the infrastructure of the British Higher Education Institutions in the UK.  So, it has been given the authority to give the student visa given by the British higher education institutions. GAU Canterbury is at a university’s state that can award diplomas with its own accreditations.” 

Akpınar, "GAU is among the first three Universities in Turkey in the Aviation Area" 

Akpınar made a statement about the newly formed Pilotage Department: "I can say, we are among the top 3 universities in Turkey in the aviation area. In particular, the university has established its own aviation school, has aviation license, will form their flight squadron in Istanbul as a campus from September and will provide training in many areas such as private pilotage, commercial pilotage, and these accentuates the university from other institutions.  The work we have demonstrated will proceed through three different centres; Istanbul, Çorlu and Cyprus. We have taken steps to incorporate our students who receive education after graduating into our structure. Our school has taken the shape of airlines now, at the end of aviation training.  Airlines begin with air taxi program first. Our students, who will graduate, will start flying with their own airlines.

In Maritime, as you know, we are in the Mediterranean.  As a Floating University, we are structuring a training program so that students can receive their training on ships not only in the Mediterranean Sea, but all around the world with the training ship we bought from Japan this year. We will begin the program this year."

Akpınar, "Le Chateau Lambousa Hotel has become a Hotel in the management of students."

Akpınar made a statement about Le Chateau Lambousa Hotel which has been recently refurbished and is a GAU Tourism and Hospitality Management School:  "Le Chateau Lambousa Hotel is actually the first hotel of the TRNC, located in an historic area that describes the Lambousa kingdom and that civilization. Our university has undertaken the restoration of Le Chateau Lambousa Hotel and it has been given to the faculty practices of GAU Tourism and Hospitality Management.  This is a 5 star hotel with on-site facilities. Our students have now started working there. It has become a hotel with the management of students in many fields from the front desk management to culinary arts students. Being able to see it is really very enjoyable because there is no such structure that I have previously seen."

Akpınar, "GAU, has started a serious study to transfer the Island into a University, Research and Health Island" 

Akpınar made a statement about a new breakthrough in the field of health: "Girne American University has started a serious launch to turn the University Island into a Research and Health Island.  We set off with the targets of establishing a research hospital in co-operation with the Florence Nightingale Hospital, accordingly establishing a Science University with faculties of medicine and correcting the deficiencies with the steps taken in this direction and gathering the health services on the island into a single structure that can increase the prestige of  the island to the outside world. We already have started the student recruitment of the Faculty of Health Sciences. We want to have the best health services with the integration of Turkey and the Medical School, which will open this year, with the development of the island into a single structure."

Akpınar "We have always been at our graduates’ sides and we will be with them any time." 

Akpınar stated that GAU have always been with their graduates and they will keep being with them at any time: "In particular, it is really flattering that social media is currently so widespread, that every day dozens of our students and graduates are watching and want to participate. There are some graduates amongst the thousands of GAU graduates who are in very important places. Recently I have encountered one of our students in China who is a senior manager, this made us very happy. Other than that, we are watching our students take part both in the private sector, political field as well as in local government with great interest.

Akpınar, "Students, who choose Girne American University, should not forget that they chose a World University" 

Akpinar who advised the students in preferences period, "First of all, we wish from our students not to forget that they chose a world university when they chose GAU, to always choose their targets according to that university’s accreditations and if they experience difficulties  about their occupational preferences, to choose with their free will by always following their dreams.”
