Assist. Prof. Dr. Asım VEHBİ, the CEO of Girne American University, attended as a guest on the "Education and Success" program of CNN TURK. In the program, where the TRNC universities were discussed, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was also introduced.

Asım Vehbi, who participated in the program which was broadcasted on CNN TURK in the area of Girne American University Promotion Days, introduced GAU’s Faculties and Departments, as well as the TRNC.

Vehbi: "Girne American University has more than 100 Departments and many Faculties. Our Marine, Aviation, Health Sciences Faculties, School of Nursing, Faculty of Law, have had more demand in recent years. In Aviation, we have a Pilotage Department and the Department of Civil Aviation, in Maritime, logistics and deck departments are available. Students who graduate from such areas have opportunities that are already available, for example, in piloting there is a very serious pilot shortage in the world, in the same way there is an opening for the sea captains. Vehbi, who talked about the new departments of Girne American University that have recently been opened, mentioned that the Turkish departments of important areas such as architecture and engineering have also been opened due to the increasing demand. Vehbi, gave information of the Faculty of Humanities and Faculty of Education: "Girne American University has many faculties. There are department such as Faculty of Humanities, Department of Psychology, English Language and Literature, Chinese Language and Literature. Previously our Turkish departments consisted of Turkish Language and Literature, Turkish Language Teaching and PDA, but lately almost every faculty opened has included a Turkish department such as Engineering, Communications and Business Faculties. No matter how much at the forefront English education is, with more demand and being really important, some students are unable to go forward from a certain point. Instead of losing them by not offering a choice, we direct them towards Turkish departments We introduced this system so they could have an alternative if they cannot achieve success in the English Departments. Of course, we do not encourage anyone to it, as you know now we live in a global world, the international arena is very important. We have campuses in countries like Hong Kong, the UK and the USA. and we can send our students there for a period in summer school at no additional charge and we encourage second and third languages such as Chinese, Russian, Arabic, German, French, as well as English, which brings enormous benefits to students who graduate in terms of hardware."

Asım Vehbi, stated that Girne American University Graduates work as senior executives at several points overseas with diplomas which are valid not only in Turkey and Cyprus, but also all over the world: "There are nearly 200 universities in Turkey, government and private universities and there are universities in Cyprus. For many universities YÖK equivalence is enough, so if YÖK approves and gives equivalence, that is enough for most universities but we have students from 85 different countries. For these students, when they return to their own country or other countries, it is very important for their diplomas to have prestige as well as adequacy. We prepare that prestige with accreditation organizations recognized at international standards. We have been getting America's most prestigious IACBE accreditation in business for years now, all of our departments are accredited. What this means is, if a university program has IACBE accreditation, and its graduate wants to have a doctorate degree in the U.S., their diploma will be automatically approved. This is very important. Others go through a certain procedure but you do not if you have accreditation. Girne American Business and Economics Faculty is one of the first 1000 in the world and has opened doors to its graduates from all over the world and has a lot of departments from marketing to publicity, accounting as well as finance. Shanghai Airport's senior manager was a Chinese graduate student of GAU. One of our students is a Minister in Sri Lanka. We have successful students from all over the world. We have students who are senior executives in Azerbaijan. We have students who work as senior executive in the same way in Turkey.”

"IT IS A PRIVILEGE TO BE A STUDENT IN CYPRUS ...."

Vehbi, who also examined the education and social life on the island, shared the privilege of being a student on the island through CNN Turk. Vehbi, who mentioned overseas campuses and the student scholarships of Girne American University, talked about the privilege of being a student in Cyprus Kyrenia campus and he continued: "GAU is raising equipped students. Whether it is language, social life or academic platform, we raise them as a whole, actually when you look at our students, Girne American University does not receive students with very high scores, the scores are clear already everyone knows them but we raise well-equipped students with academic staff, social, economic, cultural life, the laboratory and studio substructures with the cooperation of trade and industry, which our overseas campuses students are the most important point of this, almost every student is able to spend their one or two semesters in Hong Kong or in the UK. Most importantly, they can do it without paying an additional fee. In the region, GAU is the only university in the TRNC that can do this.

University of Dallas in the U.S. registered as GAU's university, Business and Economics Faculty is accepting students from around the world, providing education as an American University but students from Cyprus need to provide for a certain number of students from their departments, at least eight students, to receive course subjects, for example, 8 students from GAU Industrial Engineering come together and the campus in America opens for them the subjects they will receive in Cyprus and our students take these lessons during the period. “WE GIVE DIRECTION TO SOCIAL LIFE ON THE ISLAND... "

Asım Vehbi talked about the social life and academic and social activities performed on campus, one and a half eventare organized per day on average each year, and emphasized that GAU has much more intense social and cultural environment than social life in Turkey: "The island has a population of 300 thousand, of which 60 thousand are students, close to 50 thousand are TSK security forces to begin with. Cyprus is one of the safest countries in the world according to me, if we look at the rate of crime and criminals, the TRNC has already the world's lowest rates, and this is a great advantage for parents. Other than that, as I just said, it is completely a university island, chambers of commerce, chambers of industry, all trades are collaborating with the University. They embrace the university students, they provide part-time jobs and internships when needed and as the basis of all this cooperation they boost the student's self-confidence, as well as providing relief for the family. There are no cases which will be of concern to the parents. When we calculate the annual average activity of Girne American University, there are at least one and a half activities every day. There are interviews with people from Turkey and the world's most important writers, politicians and artists at events and activities of the students and their departments, faculties etc. So actually students have more facilities than in Turkey. If there are concerts in the city, students will receive special discounts. There is absolutely not a bored student profile, the place where the Kyrenia sea and the Beşparmak mountains, meaning the place where the green and the blue meet... I think GAU students are already living the advantages of Kyrenia being the island's tourist centre."
Vehbi, who talked about the social responsibility projects organized by students based on the academic programs at the same time, mentioned the social responsibility projects organized in collaboration with Girne American University Early Childhood Education and Psychology Department students and emphasized that the students have an important role on the island under the FLYING ANGELS project.

Vehbi concluded his speech with these words - "We have over a hundred departments in many areas such as Humanities, Education, Law, Communication, Business and Economics, Engineering, Architecture, Design and Fine Arts, Health Sciences, Performing Arts, Maritime and Transportation, Sports, School of Applied Social Sciences High and the School of Nursing. The Faculty of Education is the largest of the faculties and many students from Turkey choose departments such as PDR, pre-school teacher and classroom teacher and Serious Social Responsibility Projects are developing in these departments. We have an elderly orientated project called the Flying Angel Project, in collaboration with Health Sciences Faculty, School of Nursing and the Faculty of Education, where each of our students are classed as an angel at that point, providing health and social services to the elderly in the region. GAU's Angels are known and liked very seriously within the region. Humanities and Psychology work together with them. The Chinese Language in Humanities is important to us, which is a rare department, and as you already know Chinese is the most spoken language in the world.
