While been active as director in Girne American College under Girne Group of Schools after retiring from his duty of Directorate of 19 Mayıs College, untimely loss of Cyprus Turkish world of education the late Salih Sonel will be remembered in the fencing tournament memorial.

As stated by GAU,The  1st Salih Sonel Fencing Memorial Tournament will be held at Girne American College Kyrenia Campus Indoor Sports Hall on November the 3rd Saturday 2012 at 09:30am by TRNC Fencing Federation.

TRNC Fencing Federation also added that the 2nd Salih Sonel Memorial Tournament which will be held in Girne American College Kyrenia Campus as open to public and where all clubs and individual sportsmen ought to compete in 2nd Seniors Fencing Tournament in all branches is aimed to be presented in traditional and international platforms.

It is further explained that the awards to be presented to the ranking competitors by the late Salih Sonel’s family, Federation and GAU Authorities and emphasized that the loss of Salih Sonel is also a great loss for the education world as well and underlined the fact that Salih Sonel had set an example to the new generation with his experinces. Finally its been stressed that Salih Sonel’s contributions to the education world and the community will never be forgotten and the tournament is aimed to be conveyed to international platform.
