HONORARY DOCTORATE HAS BEEN PRESENTED TO THE FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTER OF THE REPUBLIC OF TURKEY

ÇAVUŞOĞLU: I WILL TAKE LIFE LONG PRIDE IN RECEIVING THIS HONORARY DOCTORATE WHICH ALSO WAS PRESENTED TO OUR PRESIDENT RECEP TAYİP ERDOĞAN IN RECENT YEARS

 

AKPINAR: “ÇAVUŞOĞLU WHO HAS GREAT CONTRIBUTIONS TO PROGRESS OF THE REPUBLIC OF TURKEY IS IMPORTANT FOR TURKISH CYPRIOTS AS WELL

 

 

In accordance with the decision taken by the Girne American University (GAU) Senate, Foreign Affairs Minister of Repuclic of Turkey Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has received an Honorary Doctorate.

To the ceremony which was held in GAU Millenium Senate Congress Center, alongside TR Foreign Affairs Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, TRNC Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Kutret Özersay, Tourism Minister Fikri Ataoğlu, Chairman of  UBP(NUP) Ersin Tatar, TR Lefkoşa(Nicosia) Ambassador, GAU Academic and administration staff  joined the ceremony.

 

GAU Founding Rector Akpınar who made the opening speech, emphasised with TRNC`s amount of student described over hundreds of thousands, said that it was starting to be referred as island of education. Akpınar continued his speech with ;

"We are a university which represent 110 countries from for corners of the world with international programs and quality of education we offer. Today you can find a GAU Graduate in every country in the world”

 

Akpınar: “Çavuşoğlu who has great contributions to progress of republic of Turkey is important for Turkish Cypriots as well

 

In accordance with the decision our University Senate has taken, every year University presents an Honorary Doctorate Title to those who made valuable, distinguished and laudable contributions to the business world, art, politics and culture, and as a consequence to the TRNC and towards our University`s founding mission. For this occasion we are honoured to host esteemed Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu in our University. Çavuşoğlu who has great contributions to progress of republic of Turkey is important for Turkish Cypriots as well. We welcome esteemed Çavuşoğlu, who advocated alongside us our just cause, the determined struggle for the existence of the Turkish Cypriot people on multiple platforms and around the world at most critic stages of the Cyprus issue.

 

As a person who witnessed a breaking point in Crans Montana, has always with and alongside our people, played an important role in resisting the injustices alongisde motherland Turkey especially starting with EU membership process, and as such did a great service to Turkish Cypriot people. As someone who witnessed the 72nd United Nations General Assembly meetings on the behalf of International Diplomats Association which I was the Vice President of, and Sustainable Peace summit that was held in New york in the presesence of UN at highest level as government representative, our esteemed Minister`s sensitive humanitarian approach on refugees, especially Syrian refugees, is a stance that should set a precedent.

 

I thank you on behalf of myself, institution and our Senate for your interests in our conveying of our University`s missions, which we have share for humanity and for our world as GAU, as a member of Sustainable Goals 2030 UN which we are representative member for TRNC.

 

Akpinar: “We are happy and glad to present the 2018-2019 Academic year Honorary Doctorate Position to the Foreign Affairs Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, of the Republic of Turkey”

 

“Dear Foreign Affairs Minister;

 

I wish that your success will continue during your career and wish you all the best for the things you do for the Turkish nation and for the TRNC.

 

The decision that was made with our University’s Senate vote, we are happy and glad to present the 2018-2019 Academic year Honorary Doctorate Position to The Foreign Affairs Minister of the Republic of Turkey, Mevlut Cavusoglu.”

 

The university’s Founding Rector Serhat Akpinar, the Head of the Board of Overseers Memduh Erdal, GAU’s Rector Prof.Dr.Kutsal Ozturk and AUC’s Rector Prof.Dr.Ugur Ozgoker presented the Honorary Doctorate Certificate and the Honour Medal to the Foreign Affairs Minister of the Republic of Turkey, Mevlut Cavusoglu. After that, together Akpinar and the marine and aviation school students presented the flags of the Republic of Turkey and the TRNC to the Minister, Cavusoglu.

Cavusoglu: “I will forever carry this Honorary Doctorate Title with pride, that was also given to our president Recep Tayyip Erdogan a few years ago too”

 

After the presentation of the honorary certificate the ceremony continued with a speech by the Foreign Affairs Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and stated that he is proud of being part of GAU and thanked GAU’s Senates and Heads for the Fahri Doctorate title. In the rest of the speech, Cavusoglu said:

 

“I am going to try and be worthy of this GAU Fahri Doctorate title that was presented to me. I will forever carry this title with pride that was also given to the TRNC’s Founding President Rauf Raif Denktas and our President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the past. I want to thank the TRNC’s Prime Ministers Assistant and the Foreign Affairs Minister Kudret Ozersay, the Tourism Minister Fikri Ataoglu and the Head of the NUP Ersin Tatar for being here today at this ceremony. Today I am visiting the TRNC. Our friends sent me an invitation, the decision that was made before by the university, but today was the day it was meant to be. I also want to say good luck to the teachers and the students for the second semester of the academic year. Thank you all so much.”

 

The Foreign Affairs Minister, Cavusoglu,  continued his speech by adding important announcements about Turkey and TRNC’s foreign affairs and Negotiations about Cyprus. During the meetings at Crans-Montana said that there will not be a partnership with the Greek Cypriots and was witnessed by the General Secretary, England’s and the EU’s observers.

 

The Foreing Affairs Minister Cavusoglu said that the Turkish side hasn`t got anymore time and energy to spare for the Cyprus problem, and the Republic of Turkey and the TRNC will stand strong and will continue to protect it’s rights on the Island and in the Mediterranean.

 

In February the drillings will start

Cavusoglu also said, the search for seismic in the Mediterranean have ended and in February the second platform will take place in the exclusive Turkish economic area where the drilling will start.
