“Politics is out of fidelity”

Communication Specialist Özemir Tokel, in his presentation which is under the title of “Political Communication” he indicated that “Infidelity age is experiencing in Cyprus” and he said that as there is no loyalty to any of values, there is no longer fidelity in politics.”

Özdemir Tokel, in his statement which students showed great interest in his presentation said that, “We cannot explain political communication unless we describe the politics and communication” by taking “political communication” concept in hand and he said these:

Politics is a word of Arabic origin

“The word politics is a word from another language. It is used in the meaning of “Groom”, hostler. Politics in today’s Turkish, is defined as political works. The definition of the word communication is feeling and knowledge transfer between two living things.”

Tokel indicated that the main problem occurs because of the definition that was made and he also indicated that politics is positioned incorrectly, nowadays politics and communication is an effort to curry favor with voters. He said that “Political communication is an effort to curry favor with voters or all they are making on this way. He said that political communication exits since people lived as a collective because human being have lived the fight that “who will be a leader from one of us” hence they have started to live as a community.

From cave walls to Facebook

 Tokel expressed that in the old times people wrote the messages that was required to be given to the cave walls, but nowadays social networking is active and he said that “It is came from cave walls to Facebook wall, cave gravers in ancient times, are now forming today’s media.”

Tokel said that today is “Infidelity Age” and he expressed that there is no longer loyalty to any values, friendship and fellowship concepts are facing extinction, life is turning into the social networks and individualization have activated. Tokel explained that today’s major trouble is “getting bored” and new communication technologies are entering to human life constantly. He said that “When we searched how people make political preferences, sense of belonging to ideological political parties are decreasing in comparison with the old days and new generation focus on candidates instead of the political parties.”

Where are those old politicians?

Özdemir Tokel made observations about the people who make politics in Cyprus and he asserted that TRNC President Mustafa Akıncı is in the role of defender of Cypriot community and he does this willingly, for this reason, Turkey adopts an attitude like this. Özdemir Tokel revealed his determinations about the political leaders who work in some countries and he explained election strategies of politicians in Cyprus. He also explained the politicians who are more successful in political communication; they come from the people who look out for requests and expectations of the community.
