GAU 6th Education Workshop Conducted Through Great Participation

The 6th Education Workshop organized by Girne American University (GAU) annually in the 2014-2015 academic year, was conducted under the title of “20 Basic Features of a Successful Training Manager”.

 

 

The workshop which was held in the GAU Cyprus Kyrenia Campus Millennium Senate Congress Center, was attended by guidance counselors and headmasters all around the TRNC, while Director of TÖDER and Executive Chairman of Final Education Institutions conducted a speech about “20 Basic Features of a Successful Training Manager”.

 

 

Dean of GAU Education Faculty and Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz Karakartal, who conducted the opening speech of the workshop, underlined that the Education Faculty is the biggest and crowded faculty in GAU and TRNC and stated that the importance given to the Education Faculty by GAU was shown one more time. Karakartal expressed that both Training Manager and Coaching have differences and similarities and stated that “Coaching requires a relevant training about the field, getting the relevant mission or information. A Turkish language teaching graduate is a Turkish language teacher candidates; one cannot or should not do Moral Education teaching. I think being a Training Manager is flexible to some extent in terms of required domain knowledge criteria. Because management art, manager resourcefulness and vision are the only things that are important here.”

GAU Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Sadık Ülker has explained the development of GAU in the last 6 years in his speech and stated the following:

 

 “GAU has started to provide education in 1985 with 5 people as the first university of our island. I proudly say that today our numbers have reached to 13.000.” Ülker who highlighted that universities are the biggest share providers to the economy, stated; “Our numbers were at 5143 in the years 2008-2009. We had 530 students from abroad, 4108 from Turkey and 505 from TRNC.” Enver stressed that the highest occupation was in 2013 with the rate of %70 and informed that their next goal is to achieve 15.000 within the next 5 years. Ülker highlighted that providing education to students from 101 different countries is a great achievement. Ülker stated that international equivalences and accreditations are very important in affecting the preference of students and informed that they are in the process of requiring international accreditations for international students as well as YÖK and YÖDAK.

 

In his speech, Director of TÖDER and Executive Chairman of Final Education Institutions İbrahim Taşel focused on the topic of “What are the features of a successful training manager?” and presented it in 20 article. Taşel listed the 20 articles by mentioning that directing is a tough job, but directing others is challenging when directing ourselves is difficult enough:

 

1)         One needs to know that a person`s responsibility will increase once in Management and should be aware of his/her responsibilities.

2)         Must be a person who can control his/her administrator ego.

3)         Maintains a good balance and protects it.

4)         Has a broad hours concept.

5)         Is fair and sharing.

6)         Is tolerant and patient.

7)         Makes good use of his/her time.

8)         Welcomes criticism.

9)         Is measured in his words and behaviors.

10)      Should be the model of his/her team.

11)      Must be honest.

12)      Should stay away from gossip.

13)      Should be brave and resolute.

14)      Has high vision and goals.

15)      Thinks long-termed.

16)      Ready for change and developments.

17)      Masters every detail of his/her work.

18)      Consults and advises.

19)      Works to protect the economic interests of the institution.

20)      Should be aware that authority and positions are temporary.
