Within the frame of Friday Seminars of GAU Department of Architecture, Friday 4th of March, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jakob Rigi from Central European University HUNGARY will present a seminar entitled: The Net and The City. DR. Rigi. reviewing critically Castells' theory on the relation between city and information technologies, argues that the emergence of open source social production has offered a new model of production of space. This model, transcending the capitalist division of labour. is more egalitarian, ethical and ecologically sound.

Dr. Rigi received his Ph.D. degree from London University (1999). He has taught at Cornell University (2002-2008) and has been fellow of London University, Manchester University, Edinburgh University and New York University. Since 2008 he has been teaching at Central European University, Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology. He published a book under the name Joma Nazpary entitled: "Post-Soviet Chaos: Violence and Dispossession in Kazakhstan". The book was translated and publish in Turkish by İletişim publishing.
