Important Contribution to Country Presentation and Higher Education by GAU

The workshop has inspired GAU to discuss the oncoming 30 years of higher education also 500 scientists have returned to their countries as Cyprus honorary envoys

Initially taking place in the 25th year of GAU in the 2009-2010 Academic Year, the “Orientation of Higher education in the 21st century” workshop also took place in the 30th year of the establishment of GAU at Cyprus, Kyrenia campus.

The workshop was held between 12th and 27th May 2014 with four separate groups at the International Congress Centre Spectrum Hall and Millennium Complex Senate Congress Centre of Cyprus Kyrenia Campus under the study of “importance of counsellors’ role pre- university” by Sait Güney, the director of Education through success program and columnist of Sabah Newspaper, 500 academicians, GAU Academic and administrative staff and non-governmental organisations attended this workshop.

GAU CEO and Vice-Chancellor of Board of Administrators - Assist. Prof. Dr. Asım Vehbi made a presentation about “Development Process of GAU in Time” and indicated that the GAU diploma is valid all around the world and also said that accordingly, with its English educational system, GAU is one of the most assertive universities in Cyprus. Asım further mentioned that “Our proof is EQUALS accreditations. It is easy to say we are going to give English education but it is not that easy to apply it and GAU provides this in the best way. This is not what we argue; it is what EQUALS has claimed”.

In his statement he reminded that GAU celebrates its establishment anniversary in the 2013/2014 Academic Years and also indicated that the first workshop under the name of “Higher Education and the Future” has an important contribution to the presentation of the country and the development of the higher education system.

He added in his speech that the GAU family made important decisions with the numerous scientists and academicians who have attended this workshop and he believes that this workshop will bring good results; for instance adding more quality to higher education.

Committee officials who remarked about the visits to the GAU TV current news and to the TRNC indicated that they are glad to have had an opportunity to know TRNC’s higher education and GAU better and also mentioned that they will return to their country as the TRNC’s honorary envoys.

The guest committee said that they were happy to have a chance to know the TRNC better and also pleased to attend this workshop and also stated that this workshop is beneficial with regard to knowing better the TRNC higher education system and structure. They also underlined that they will return to their country as honorary envoys of the TRNC. They emphasized that, in the island of science, with the GAU education quality and 30 years of knowledge, they provide benefit to their students’ university education and also provide benefit for improvement of their careers.

Committee officials expressed that they took advantage of the hospitality of the Cyprus people as well as the natural beauty and cultural richness of the country and will present these in Turkey as the honorary envoys of the TRNC.
