High School Short Film Competition

The results of the High School Short Film Competition organised annually by Girne American University, will be announced on Friday 13th of April, at 14:00 in the Millennium Senate Congress Hall of GAU’s Cyprus Karmi Campus.

The jury members consisting of teaching staff of GAUs Faculty of Communication and well known artists and cinema authorities will distribute various prizes. This year's grand prize will be a one-year full scholarship to study Foundation English in The Canterbury Campus of Girne American University (GAU).

In addition, runners up in GAU’s VI th Short Film Competition for high school students will be awarded 1,500 euroes plus a digital camera, and 750 euros plus a Divx / DVD player respectively, stated the spokes person.

Furthermore, GAU spokes person declared that the aim in conducting these competitions is to find future directors and filmmakers, to encourage young people interested in cinema and visual arts, as well as, to contribute to the development of the short film industry. The statement also noted that the sixth High School Short Film contest has attracted contestants not only mainly from Turkey and the TRNC but also from overseas. Thus, these competitions play an important role in the encouragement and discovery of young filmmakers, not to mension its contributions in the recognition and promotion of the country itself.

The grand prize-winning works will be announced in the Millennium Senate Congress Hall of GAU’s Cyprus Karmi Campus at an award ceremony.
