EGL101-EGL102 English I–II
Teaching the grammatical features of English. Working on speaking dialogues to help students express their thoughts and emotions at a basic level. Writing compositions to improve students’ writing skills in English. Enhancing the ability to understand English texts instantly through listening. The course focuses on planning, researching, collecting, and organizing information to improve writing. Emphasis is given to academic writing, reading, listening, and speaking. Students work on texts similar to those they may encounter in their academic life and develop skills in conveying information, summarizing, and note-taking in English.
COMP103 Introduction to Computers
An introduction to computers and information processing. While the course covers a broad range, it does not delve into overly technical details. It is oriented towards contemporary commercial and personal applications. The aim is to provide students with the basic knowledge needed in their academic and professional lives. Applications such as MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint are taught. Enhancing basic computer skills like using Word and Excel, internet use, and website creation. Through practical work and projects, basic computer skills are reinforced. Students are guided to create their own websites and learn about responsible use of social media platforms.
NH001-NH002 Atatürk’s Principles and History of Reforms I-II
The aim is to teach students the meaning and importance of the Turkish Revolution. The main topic is the War of Independence. Teaching the concept of revolution and the differences between the Turkish Revolution and others in history. Providing information on the decline of the Ottoman Empire, the Republic period, and the importance of Atatürk’s reforms. Demonstrating the relevance of these reforms to present-day Turkey through examples.
TURK001-002 Turkish Language I–II
This course includes grammar, language-culture relations, spelling rules and mistakes, punctuation, word and dictionary work, literary genres, magazine introductions, travel writing, abbreviations, and creative writing exercises. Teaching the fundamental grammar rules of Turkish to help students express their thoughts and feelings accurately in spoken and written form. Writing compositions on various topics, reading texts, and doing exercises related to grammar, vocabulary, and content.

Teaching more complex and difficult characters, their breakdowns, and meanings. Teaching more advanced grammar and phonology of Chinese. Providing information on the role and significance of Chinese philosophy in the history of philosophy. Teaching the philosophies of Taoism and Confucianism with examples from Chinese art. Explaining the historical development of artistic and philosophical thought and comparing them with other civilizations.
CLL409 Translation of Specialized Texts
Translating Chinese texts from fields such as tourism, economy, international relations, law, education, and politics. Interpreting texts to enhance understanding of Chinese culture and enabling comparisons with other cultures.
The Department of Chinese Language and Literature is an undergraduate program that aims to provide academic-level education on China’s rich culture, history, literary heritage, and language. In this program, students study both modern and classical Chinese literature while also developing skills in grammar, translation techniques, speaking, and writing.
Graduates of the program have career opportunities in academia, foreign trade, tourism, media, public institutions, and private companies engaged in business with China, where they may work as translators, consultants, or cultural intermediaries. With China’s growing global influence, the demand for professionals trained in this field is rapidly increasing.

Faculty of Humanities, Chinese Language and Literature, Bachelor of Arts (230 ECTS).
To complete the undergraduate program, Chinese Language and Literature undergraduate program students are required to take 46 courses.
Students who successfully complete the program must not have received a grade of "F" in any course.
Graduating students can receive their diplomas provided that they have completed at least 126 credits and have a GPA of 2.00 or higher.
Graduates from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature have the opportunity to work in the following areas:
-Government Institutions: Such as the Prime Ministry, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Treasury and Trade, Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Culture, and other state institutions.
-Turkey-China Joint Investment Companies and Projects: They can take on roles in companies and projects that involve collaborations between Turkey and China.
-Teaching and Education: After pursuing postgraduate education at universities, they can become instructors in universities or, with the necessary teaching qualifications, work as Chinese language teachers in primary and secondary schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education (MEB).
-Aviation Companies: They can work for airlines in various capacities that require Chinese language proficiency.
-Foreign Trade Firms: Graduates can find opportunities to work in companies engaged in foreign trade, where their knowledge of Chinese language and culture can be beneficial.
-Media Organizations: They can work as translators or interpreters in media companies that require Chinese language expertise.

Chinese language and literature education is an important discipline, especially for students who are interested in Chinese culture and wish to establish a profound connection with Chinese literature by learning the Chinese language. This education can be beneficial for both academic and personal purposes and can be pursued with a variety of objectives. Here are some of the aims of Chinese language and literature education:
1. Cultural understanding and appreciation: Chinese language and literature education provide a window to better understand and appreciate Chinese culture. Chinese literature has a history of thousands of years and has developed in different periods and regions. These literary works reflect Chinese history, thought systems, values, and ways of life.
2. Communication and job opportunities: Chinese is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, and the Chinese economy is becoming increasingly important. Those who know Chinese may have better opportunities in the business world and trade and can communicate more effectively with Chinese business partners and customers.
3. Academic research: Chinese language and literature education form the foundation for academic research on Chinese culture, literature, and language. Chinese literature offers a broad field for research in social sciences, literary studies, and cultural studies.
4. Cultural exchange: Learning Chinese language and literature encourages cultural exchange and interpersonal interactions. Learning a language and studying literature can increase understanding and tolerance between different cultures
The Faculty of Humanities emphasizes the importance of using both traditional methods and modern concepts and techniques in the education and training of Chinese Language and Literature. In the Faculty of Humanities, attendance is mandatory for all courses except for the graduation thesis. Various teaching methods are employed, depending on the course and instructor. These methods include speaking, writing, and reading to better understand the theory and develop practical skills. Implementing different teaching techniques also helps to keep students engaged in the classes. Traditional classroom studies are necessary to provide fundamental theoretical knowledge on each subject. Therefore, at least 75% attendance is expected in all courses.
Since 2007, a course support system, which is a distance learning system, has been used. This system is accessible through the e-learning platform at Gau.edu.tr. It provides various opportunities for education and learning. Announcements about the courses are made through this system. Additionally, it enables students to engage in discussions with their instructors and peers on specific topics related to the course actively.

Moreover, this system reduces paper waste and ensures the equality and transparency of each student. Like many other social networking services, it allows all registered students and instructors of the course to see incoming messages. Therefore, it is a contemporary educational method used to communicate with students outside the classroom and plan activities. The usage of this system in the Faculty of Humanities varies depending on the course and instructor, but as its benefits are increasingly recognized and promoted by all instructors, its usage is growing and becoming more advantageous.
To graduate from the undergraduate programs of our faculty, students are required to meet the following conditions:
1.Credit Load and Course Completion:
Students must successfully complete all required and elective courses specified in their program and fulfill a minimum course load of 126 credits.
2.Grade Point Average (GPA):
To graduate, students must have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.00 or higher on a 4.00 scale.
3.Disciplinary and Financial Obligations:
Students must not have any disciplinary penalties that would result in dismissal from the university and must have fulfilled all financial and administrative obligations before graduation procedures.
4.Thesis Process:
One of the graduation requirements is the successful completion of Thesis I and Thesis II, each of which is a one-semester compulsory course offered in the fourth year of the program.
5. Preparatory program
In the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, every student is required to complete a one-year preparatory program. This program consists of courses called CLA and CLB.
