Teaching Staff of GAU Faculty of Business and Economy and First woman Ambassador of TRNC Hasibe Şahoğlu has presented her novel on Cyprus History titled as “Zemzem’in Kırmızı Çarşafı”.

Anneannemin annesi Filistin’den gelmedir. Dedem de Zemzem olarak kitaba ismini veren kişi Trakyadan geliyor. Bir gemide tanışıyorlar. Böyle bir hikayeleri var. Bu hikaye çok az ip ucu ile elimdeydi. Bunu genişletip bir roman haline getirdim” dedi.

Şahoğlu repoted the following to GAU TV regarding the novel;

“In fact the novel has an interesting plot. Nevertheless published as a novel it delivers a reality. My mother’s mother is originally from Palestine. My grandfather who named the Zamzam is originally from Thrace. They meet in this boat. This is their story. This story had few clues. I developed it to be a novel.”

Besides during the preparation phaase of the novel Şahoğlu stated that she has commenced the novel long ago but only had the chance to complete it.Şahoğlu replying for the critics on the novel stated that “I have come in for positive criticisms since the publishing of the novel. Few days ago the fam day for the book was realized in doctors association.There I met famous people of Cyprus Literature who I mostly pay attetion to their critisizm like Ali Nesim, Hasan Kahvecioğlu, Ahmet Tolgay and Neriman Cahit.They had very pleasant and positive critics.I received positive critcism in regards to the content and the writing techniques of the novel.

Nevertheless not a real negative critism, the novel was said to be short as it would be much better if had had been longer.The reson for me to keep the story short was that it reflected reality.I assembled few pieces of puzzle to complete a book.If I have made the story longer this would had rout out the reality.I hope to continue writing more novels in the future”.Finally stating her first experinces on writing Şahoğlu further recommended for those who intend to write a book;

“I loved writing since primary school.I had poems during highschool, but I never wrote such stories or memoirs.Late Leader Rauf Denktaş had once attended one of our meetings. He than had an advice for us; “Do write as Cypriots never writes”.He recommended us to write in any topic.Upon his inspiring words I always write memoirs since.I also recommend future generations to write.It is a pleasure to convey values to future generations.“We ought to consign our past to future instead of heritage and money.”
