Assist. Prof. Dr. Mira Gökdoğan : “Our Aim is to Reinforce the Health and Judicial System”.

GAU has announced that Clinical Forensic Nursing training will be commenced to help reinforce the rehabilitation of forensic case victims.

The Project Coordinator Assist. Prof. Dr. Mira Gökdoğan has stressed that since 1991 forensic nursing is been recognized by American Academy of Forensic Sciences – AAFS as a scientific disciplinary. Gökdoğan also emphasized that scientific nursing is one of the implementation fields of forensic sciences and it was discovered due to the preference of providing clinical nursing services for the judicial causes and yet is a developing field of profession.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Mira Gökdoğan  has also stated that beside of USA and European Union health service providers, judicial officers police force members, people of law, social aid experts are also enthusiastic to specialize in the field of forensic nursing. Gökdoğan also underlined that forensic nursing is a field of nursing sciences in regards to implementations via legal procedures. The implications of combining it with Forensic nursing will be beneficiary to use in examining of scientific researches, injured, exanimate and victims and rehabilitation of offenders of crime, criminal activity and traumatic accidents.

Gökdoğan explained further that IAFN – International Association of Forensic Nurses and ANA – American Nurses Association describes Forensic Nursing as a combination of the bio-psychological training of nursing and forensic science applications to perform as scientific accumulation of evidence, preservation of evidence, analysis, prevention, trauma or forensic cases involving death. It is recorded scientifically that trained forensic nurse or legal officers and police force members whom trained in forensic nursing are able to undertake Crime Scene Investigation, Hospitals and Polyclinics, Sexual Assault Cases, Child Abuse, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Forensic Psychiatry, Schools, Police Departments/Jails, Jurisdiction, Elderly Assault and Geriatrics.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Mira Gökdoğan   has added that protecting the legal rights of the victim is as significant as rehabilitating.  Gökdoğan also pulled attention to the point of correctly accumulating evidence, regulating, documenting and conveying to the laboratory and thus transferring the results to jurisdiction in order to be used as evidence to solve critical cases. Gökdoğan also stated that the aim is to reinforce the judicial system beside of bringing up quality experts to health system via training.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Mira Gökdoğan   has underlined that detailed information can be obtained from GAU Continuous Education Center and also stressed that the responsibilities of forensic nurses has a wide scope from the examinations of forensic cases to the transfer to jurisdiction and also yet continuing to play a significant role during the case trials.
