Students from Girne American University successfully represented the university at the TÜBİTAK-supported 10th PACES Conference for Undergraduate Students, organized by the Department of English Language and Literature at Pamukkale University on May 11, 2026. Held under the theme “Fantasy,” the conference brought together undergraduate researchers from various institutions to engage in academic discussions on literature, culture, cinema, translation, and the fantastic across disciplines.
Representing Girne American University for the first time at the PACES Conference were three undergraduate students supervised by Asst. Prof. Dr. Henrieta Krupa.
From the Department of Translation and Interpreting, third-year student Zeynep Lale Diriker presented her paper titled “Aphrodite as a Linguistic Figure: Gendered Representation in English Translations of Greek Mythological Texts.” Another third-year Translation and Interpreting student, Sıla Ceylan, delivered a presentation entitled “Digital Prejudice and Social Performance in Black Mirror: An Analysis of ‘Nosedive.’”
Representing the Department of English Language and Literature, fourth-year student Burcu Birim presented her paper “Hallucination and the Instability of Supernatural Experience in The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.”
The participation of Girne American University students in this prestigious undergraduate conference reflects the university’s continued commitment to academic research, interdisciplinary inquiry, and international scholarly engagement. The event also provided students with the opportunity to exchange ideas with peers from different universities and contribute to contemporary discussions in literary and cultural studies.
