Education System and Success Criteria

Our mission is to develop our students’ English language skills through a reliable and measurable education system aligned with international standards and to prepare them for their faculty studies.

Our vision is to provide high-quality English preparatory education that places student development at its centre, uses modern teaching methods and follows international assessment standards.
Placement Test
Newly registered students enrolled in English-medium programmes are required to take the Placement Test to determine their English proficiency level.
According to the Placement Test result:
- Students enrolled in general undergraduate and associate degree programmes may proceed to their faculties or programmes if they achieve at least B1 level.
- Students enrolled in Medicine, Pharmacy, Master’s and foreign language departments must achieve at least B1+ level to proceed to their faculties or programmes.
- Students who do not achieve the required level are placed in the appropriate preparatory class according to their Placement Test results.
The Placement Test is used only to determine the student’s starting level or exemption from English preparatory education.
English Levels and Course Durations
The following English levels are offered by the Foundation English School:

The A2, A2+, B1 and B1+ programmes last for eight weeks. After completing the eight-week course period, students take the Final Examination in the ninth week.
The B1 Plus Extended and PTE Advanced programmes last for 16 weeks. Examination dates for these programmes are announced in accordance with the relevant academic calendar.
Progression Between Modules
At A2, A2+ and B1 levels, the module grade is calculated as follows:

Students complete their eight-week course period and take the Final Examination in the ninth week.
Students who achieve a total grade of 60/100 or above from the Portfolio and Final Examination proceed to the next level. Students who receive a total grade below 60 repeat the same level.
B1+ and Advanced Programmes
In the B1+, B1+ Extended and PTE Advanced programmes, the course grade is calculated as follows:

Students in the B1+ programme take the Final Exam in the ninth week after completing the eight-week course period.
Assessments in the B1+ Extended and PTE Advanced programmes are conducted within the 16-week academic programme.
Students who achieve a total grade of 60 or above from the Portfolio, Mid-Term Exam and Final Exam are eligible to take the Proficiency Examination at the end of the term.
Proficiency Examination and Graduation
The Proficiency Examination is administered at the end of the term to determine whether students who have completed their preparatory education have achieved the required level of English proficiency.
The final graduation level for all students who begin their studies at the Foundation English School is B1+.
Students who achieve at least B1+ level in the Proficiency Examination successfully complete their English preparatory education and proceed to their faculties or programmes.
Students who do not achieve the required level continue their English education in accordance with the academic programme determined by the Foundation English School.
The Main Aim of Our Education System
The primary aim of the Foundation English School is to enable students to use English effectively in academic and communicative contexts and to begin their faculty studies with the required level of language proficiency.
Through the modular education system, students’ academic progress is monitored regularly, and their learning is evaluated through portfolios, course assessments and final examinations.
