On the decision of the GAU Senate in the year 2009, the Faculty of Architecture, Design & Fine Arts was founded. Situated within the main campus of Girne American University, the Faculty comprises six departments. However much of the department's history goes way back to 1994 once they were part of the old Faculty of Engineering and Architecture until they split in 2009.
Educational principles of the faculty are based on the belief that the creative process in art and design relies on critical thinking and a broad body of knowledge for direction and inspiration. Guided by this principle, the degree programmes aim to train highly competent individuals oriented towards research, design and performance. The international and multidisciplinary composition of the academic staff allows for the provision of interdisciplinary studies, as well as particular courses of study to meet individual program educational needs.
The degree programmes consist of six undergraduate programmes: 4 year Bachelor Degree programmes in Architecture (1 English & 1 Turkish stream), Interior Architecture (1 English & 1 Turkish stream) Graphic Design, and Plastic Arts. The graduate programmes of the faculty include Master degree programmes in Architecture, Interior Architecture and Fine Arts, Master degree in Urban Design and a PhD programme in Architecture.
