2026 TRNC Student Immigration Amnesty

Dear GAÜ Students,

The Ministry of Interior of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has announced an Immigration Amnesty under Law No. 27/2026. This amnesty specifically covers students currently in the island under penalized immigration status, or those who have previously been deported or banned from entering the country.

Amnesty Period

May 26, 2026 – July 9, 2026 (inclusive of both dates)

Applications submitted after this date will not be accepted.

Who Can Apply?

Students Currently in the TRNC

Students whose student permit has expired and who are therefore in a penalized immigration status.

Students Previously Deported or Banned from Entry

Students who have been deported due to the expiration of their student permit or who have received a ban from entering the TRNC and who were registered at Girne American University before May 26, 2026.

Application Process

For Students Located in the TRNC

Applications must be made through the following online portal of the TRNC Ministry of Interior:

https://permissions.gov.ct.tr/amnesty/login

Before applying, you must register and create a password, and then complete your application.

For Students Previously Deported or Banned from Entry (Temporary Article 37)

Students who have been previously deported or banned from entry must submit their applications through Girne American University, not directly.

To be eligible to apply, the student must have completed at least 50% of the academic credit load of their registered program.

Official university letter approved by the Ministry of National Education showing completion of at least 50% of program credits

Passport photocopy

If the Application is Approved

If your application is approved by the Immigration Office:

You must enter the TRNC within 30 days of receiving the confirmation notification. Upon entry, you will be required to pay an amount equal to the current gross minimum wage for one month. If your airfare was covered by the state during your previous deportation, you will also need to pay 1.5 times that amount at the Revenue and Tax Office payment points. What to Do

Please note that the application process may take time. The deadline is July 9, 2026, and applications will not be accepted after this date.
