GAU Theatre Days Continues With “Sondan Sonra”
Theatre Days which is the 2014-2015 academic year activities of thirtieth year of GAU continued with a play named “Sondan Sonra”
Because of the great interest of play which was staged in Spectrum, there was almost a stampede.
The play in which Emre Kınay who is the director of the play and leading player and Ahu Türkpençe who is also famous with her television series performed examines the leanings which was developed after the 11 September assault in USA. In the play, changing balance of powers in the world is explained under the skin of man-woman relationship. According to Kınay, two main subjects are discussed in the play; power relations at the level of ‘macro’ and ‘micro’. Also, the fihgt of a man to get a woman by using his power is shown in the play.
The theatre play which was written by Dennis Kelly was staged in Turkey/Duru Theatre on 2010 under the directing of Emre Kınay. Ahu Türkpençe who is the leading player of the play have been choosen The Best Woman Player in the 2010 Afife Theatre Awards with her role in this play.
Emre Kınay: We are very glad
Emre Kınay who came to Cyprus because of the play referred that “When the theatre is full, it is a festival for us. It made us very glad that the press and public showed that much interest in the 27 March Theatre Day. In the first 20 year plan of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, he had the will to over 400 theatres in every town which had 20.00 populations; nobody remembers this will like we do not remember the others but it should be done.”
Kınay explained that last time he was in Cyprus was to play the border play of Muzeffer İzgü in 1996 and continued “It had been 20 years and I am very glad to be in here. Organizing the Theatre Days with the support of sponsors and Levent Suner made me very surprised. We would like to be in here in the forthcoming processes. By its climate, Cyprus is also very suitable for the summer theatres.”
GAU Performing Arts Department Head Levent Suner
GAU Performing Arts Academy Drama and Acting Department Head Assist. Prof. Dr. Levent Suner stated that “Celebrating the Theatre Days is a tradition. Last year we created the Theatre Days on the basis of the method to celebrate 27 March Theatre Day. Since we could not stage a play immediately as the theatre department was new, we decided to create the first Theatre Days and it attracted great attention. Thus, we decided to organize the second Theatre Days. This year, to also bring children together with the theatre, two children’s play were staged.”
