GAU Family Commemorate Ataturk With A Ceremony

Girne American University (GAU) Global Science Family held a ceremony to commemorate Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.

GAU Acting Rector - Prof. Dr.Sadık Ülker, Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Education Prof. Dr. Oğuz Karakartal, Secretary-General - Assist. Prof. Dr. Sualp Davut as well as academic and administrative staff and students attended the ceremony held in front of the GAU Cyprus Campus Rectorate building.

The memorial started with standing in silence and the reading of the Turkish National Anthem in front of the Rectorate GAU building, then continued with a commune held by GAU Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Education - Prof. Dr. Oguz Karakartal about "Turkish War of Independence with old postcards and Ataturk" at GAU International Convention Centre Spectrum Hall.

GAU Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Education - Prof. Dr. Oğuz Karakartal stated the following in an interview conducted in commemoration:

``Atatürk was famed to be known through features of being a hero, intelligent, humanist, patriotic, and nationalist and soldier as well as having tossed himself into the fire to save the Turkish nation from the fire and wore a shirt from fire. As Ziya Gökalp also said in a speech; "Everyone says something but it is difficult to achieve and bring what they said to a success”. Mustafa Kemal is great because he always delivers everything he said to success. At the time, the Turkish Cypriots staged theater plays against all risks, sold their horses, their lands and sent all the money to Ankara through the Red Crescent. Titles like Ghazi Pasha and Reisi-cumhur (president of the republic) were located in almost all newspapers in Cyprus in the years 1919,1920,1921,1922. So despite being under the British administration, the Turkish Cypriots saw Atatürk as the head of state instead of the Queen.``

At the end of the commune, Karakartal presented a slide show consisting of the Turkish War of Independence and Atatürk postcards compiled from his archives.
