Girne American University (GAU) introduced the "Letters to the Future" project which is a vision documentary which will carry the social memory of today to 25 years in the future and evaluate today along with tomorrow.

The documentary that consists of sessions with “25 special topics, 25 chosen people” is a co-production of GAU and Prequel Productions, scripted and directed by Ferhat Atik and the vision of GAU Founding Rector and Chancellor of the Board - Serhat Akpınar.

Predictions about the next 25 years in various fields, images from all over the country and interviews with the "opinion leaders" were recorded in the project specified as a first in this area.

In the project, which aims to carry today to tomorrow, drawings of 250 children under the age of 12 were also given a place.

The project was introduced to the public by a press conference held at the GAU Northern Cyprus Girne Campus Millennium Building Presidency Office.

The event was attended by Vice Chancellor of the Board of Administrators, Project Coordinator Olgun Üstün, CEO and Vice Chancellor of the Board of Administrators - Asim Vehbi, Vice Chancellor of the Board - Cemile Esenyel, Vice Rectors - Prof. Dr. Sadık Ülker and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zafer Ağdelen, President of Supreme Publication Council - Ilkay Diren, Narrator of the project Hüseyin Köroğlu, Project Coordinator - Raşit Özgür and other members of the filming crew.

The event began with speech by GAU Founding Rector and Chancellor of the Board - Serhat Akpınar and Director and Screenwriter of the vision documentary - Ferhat Atik.

Akpinar - "I would like to offer my thanks and welcome you on the behalf of the GAU Global Science Family for attending the press and public briefing meeting of GAU "Letters to the Future" vision documentary which will be revealed to tomorrow’s Cyprus in 25 years time of what the 25 Cypriot Opinion Leaders wrote for history describing today’s tomorrow.

The "Letters to the Future" vision documentary which is a first in the world with the cooperation of GAU and Prequel Productions will reveal in 25 years time to Cyprus, to the Cypriot community and to the world the things 25 opinion leaders who live in our country or overseas wrote according to their area of expertise about yesterday and today of our country.

The things described in the "Letters to the Future" vision documentary, such as 25 opinion leaders who described today’s social memory of the community in every aspect from their points of view and “Future” themed paintings drawn by today’s children, 250 children - tomorrow’s opinion leaders, will be un-archived and shared with the world, the things which have been said, written and drawn will tour the world, especially international campuses of GAU on 3 continents.

The "Letters to the Future" project which shows the importance given to ideas and vision in addition to the intercontinental education and training success realized by the innovative and progressive vision of Girne American University, will contribute significantly to the promotion of the country as a vision project and the first vision documentary attracting interest anywhere in the world.

As you know the future shapes with location, definition, prediction and life orientation. The most important thing is our dreams that make all these come true.

We are travelling to a future where we are going to make our dreams come true. A reality that we know with our dreams is waiting for us.

Today we leave today's dreams of the future to the future with 25 different gender, characters, achievements, and 25 different dreams for the first time with the vision perspective and predictions of TRNC-Girne American University.

As you know, when Mustafa Kemal Atatürk talked about education technologies in 1923, the definition of the word technology was not even in our Turkish language. He had expressed that it was built on education and systematic, outside of its meaning. Seeing the future and making it real and livable is like this.

Today we braze a new trail and let ourselves and our dreams into the future under the leadership of Journalist and Author - Mr. Ferhat Atik with the narration of Mr. Hüseyin Köroğlu who shapes the future of art with his valuable artistic personality.

Other than building a “Letters to the Future” monument in Girne American University Northern Cyprus Girne Campus, we owe a debt of gratitude to everyone who contributed to memory and history of the community and were involved in the project for the love of the country and to 25 Cypriot opinion leaders who contributed to the mission of creating a future for GAU Cypriots while shaping today, and I thank again the press members by saying “welcome to the future” for sharing our enthusiasm on a day that has great importance for our future and country.”

Ferhat Atik - "We have performed our study with predictions of what might happen in 25 years."

The Director and Screenwriter of the vision documentary - Ferhat Atik wished less loss and more gain and happiness in a life that someone leaves and enters every day, he stated that they declared some kind of war against the limited period of life with this project.

Atik stated that the idea of shooting a documentary came about after watching a family film that was taken during his childhood 25 years ago, and stated that not being able to see the neighbourhood, roads, streets and squares outside of the house has hurt him deeply.

Ferhat Atik stated that they first recorded the roads for the documentary they shot and emphasized that they completed the work with the prediction of what might happen in the next 25 years.

Following this the trailer of the project was introduced and plaques were given to those who had contributed to this project.

The event came to an end with locking the documentary in a steel case in the archive room where it will be stored.
