Future Directors and Photographers collect Awards

The 8th “Inter-High schools Short Film Contest organized by the GAU Faculty of Communication, and the 2nd “Young Photographers Contest” organized by the Faculty of Architecture and Fine Arts, has concluded and the results announced.

Participated by approximately 100 students from the high schools of the TRNC and Turkey, the first prize for the “Short Film Contest” was awarded to Berk Kuşbeygi of Tuncay Azaphan Anatolia Communication Vocational High school for his film entitled “Robenson” and Efe Akerca & Güneş Seven who participated in the contest from Özel Ataşehir Adıgüzel Fine Arts High school were ranked as the runners up for their film entitled “Uçurum” and finally the film entitled “Bakış Açısı” ranked Musa Berk Koç as the second runner up who participated from Özel Moda Mimar Sinan Anatolia Fine Arts High School.

There were over 1000 contestants participating in “The Young Photographers Contest” under the theme of “Nature and Man” and the winner was Aziz Çetin of Zonguldak Alaplı Industrial Vocational and Anatolia Technical High school, Cüneyt Tomruk of Sakarya University was the runner up and Can Özben of Girne American University was the second runner up.

The winners of the contest have won 2000 Euros, the runners up 1500 Euros and second runners up 1500 Euros each and also a year of full scholarship in the English foundation at GAU Canterbury Campus.

Ahmet Tolgay- journalist/author and cinema critic and Ara Güler- photography artist were awarded with “Life Long Honours Award” during the awarding ceremony held in GAU Spectrum International Congress Centre.

The Jury Board for the Short Film Contest comprised of Scenarist and Author - Ferhat Atik, Director Cemal Yıldırım, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Haluk Selman - Dean of GAU Faculty of Communication, TAK Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Neriman Saygılı and Head of GAU Cinema and Television Department Dr. İzlem Ali.

The Jury Board for the Young Photographers Contest comprised of the Dean of GAU Architecture and Fine Arts Faculty - Assist. Prof. Dr. Hossein Sadri, Head of Painting Department - Dr. Mehmet Adil and photography artists Mustafa Batıbeniz and Hasan Hüseyin.

The Award Ceremony had speeches from GAU Rector - Prof. Dr. Öner Yıldırım, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Haluk Selman- Dean of GAU Faculty of Communication and Dean of GAU Architecture and Fine Arts Faculty - Assist. Prof. Dr. Hossein Sadri

In his speech, GAU Rector - Prof. Dr. Öner Yıldırım emphasized his satisfaction for the frequent participation of the students in the contests organized by the Faculty of Architecture and Fine Arts. Öner, congratulating the ranked contestants, also informed students about Girne American University.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Haluk Selman - Dean of GAU Faculty of Communication stressed in his speech that there were over 100 films competing in the Inter-high schools Short Film Contest, organized by the Faculty and all of these films were beautiful when the ages of the contestants were also considered. Selman congratulated the students who ranked in the contest.

The Dean of GAU Architecture and Fine Arts Faculty - Assist. Prof. Dr. Hossein Sadri congratulated and thanked all the contestants who had participated and were ranked in the Young Photographers Contest organized by the Faculty.
