GAU Life Campus Will Bring Life to Dipkarpaz

Girne American University has taken the first step for their new campus in Dipkarpaz. The protocol which enables GAU to rent land around Dipkarpaz village was signed in the Ministry.

The protocol was signed by Prime Minister Irsen Kucuk, the Minister of Interior and Local Administrations, Nazım Cavusoğlu; the Minister of Finance, Ersin Tatar; the Minister of National Education Youth and Sport, Kemal Dürüst and the Founding Rector and Chairman of GAU’s Administrative Board, Serhat Akpınar.

The ceremony was attended by the GAU Chairman of Board of Trustees, Memduh Erdal; GAU Vice Chairpersons of the Administrative Board, Olgun Ustun, Asım Vehbi and Cemile Esenyel; GAU Rector, Dr Yıldırım Oner; several officials from Dipkarpaz Municipality and Zeynep Onur who is one of the architects of the project of ‘Dipkarpaz Life Campus’.

Speaking at the ceremony, Irsen Küçük said that the new campus will accelerate the development process of the educational programmes of the country.

He said that they, as the government, want to development Dipkarpaz without harming its natural beauty and so the government has started new projects and provided incentives for tobacco producers although it is not enough to develop the region immediately. Küçük said “Dipkarpaz needs to be developed with permanent projects which will also strengthen the local people of Dipkarpaz. That’s why we give great importance to its development with new investments.”

Küçük also said that the Bafra tourist region project started during their term and added that the opening ceremony for hotels and several new tourism buildings will be on Wednesday 20 July. He said that like Bafra, they are trying to develop Dipkarpaz as well.

“I congratulate Girne American University. They preferred to invest in a difficult region,” said Küçük, and also conveyed thanks to the Mayor of Dipkarpaz for his support.

He also expressed his wish that the project will bring success to GAU, will contribute to the country’s economy and also will bring luck and development to Dipkarpaz.
Vital project

Minister of Interior and Local Administrations, Nazım Cavusoğlu, said GAU Life Campus underlined that despite the efforts of the Greek Cypriot side to stop the project, they could not succeed and with the vision of the Prime Minister and with his directives, the protocol was signed for the new GAU campus.

He added that the government aims to develop the region without harming it natural beauty and that’s why GAU’s “Life Campus” project is of vital importance for the region. He conveyed his thanks to the officials of GAU and wished them success.
Gold letters

Minister of National Education, Youth and Sport, Kemal Dürüst, congratulated GAU on this important step and stated the fact that GAU will have its name written in gold letters in North Cyprus. He said that they, as the government, attach great importance to the development of tourism, economy and all foundations in North Cyprus and added that the step taken by GAU will encourage investments in Dipkarpaz.

Dürüst said that with the GAU Life Campus and the other investments; he has no doubt that Dipkarpaz will be a developed region within 10 years.
Centre of attraction

Serhat Akpınar conveyed his thanks to the Prime Minister and the Ministers for their support. He said that GAU Life Campus is a great honour for them and they, as GAU, are aware of the responsibility. Akpınar added that he strongly believes GAU Karpaz Life Campus will become the international centre of attraction for the recognition of North Cyprus.

Akpınar underlined that, with the cooperation of the government, GAU will successfully put the project into practice and GAU Karpaz Life Campus will bring life to the region.
