Commemoration of National Struggle and Martyrs Week by GAU

National Struggle and Martyrs Week was commemorated with events in the GAU Cyprus-Girne Campus Millennium Senate Congress Hall.

A “Bloody Christmas” commemoration ceremony was held with the contribution of the GAU History Club and Turcology Club and was attended by GAU Rector - Prof. Dr. Yıldırım Öner, Head of GAU Health, Culture and Sports Department - Türkay Akpınar, Department Heads and students. The event consisted of poems and a slideshow presentation which had been prepared by the students.

Speeches were given by Lecturer in GAU Education Faculty - Prof. Dr. Saadettin Yıldız and the Chairperson of the Cyprus Turkish Mujahidin Committee- Girne Branch - Metin Fahrioğlu. The Head of GAU Education Faculty Turkish Language Teaching - Prof. Dr. Najat Sefercioğlu read a poem emphasizing the significance of the day.

Prof. Dr. Sadettin Yıldız emphasized in his speech that they were commemorating the Martyrs on the 49th anniversary of the Martyrs Week with respect and gratitude. Metin Fahrioğlu emphasized the significance of the day and thanked the students of the History and Turcology Clubs and also the Lecturers. The Lost Bus of Cyprus was also underlined by Fahrioğlu and he added that the aim of this Commemoration Week is to acknowledge the youth.

Finally GAU Rector - Prof. Dr. Yıldırım Öner presented Metin Fahrioğlu with a plaque of appreciation in recognition of his contribution.
