VEHBİ: “THE ATTACKS AGAINST TRNC UNIVERSITIES HAVE CHANGED DIMENSIONS.”

Foreign Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün, has hosted the GAU Science Board which consists of GAU CEO and Vice-Chancellor of Board of Administrators Dr. Asım Vehbi, Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Sadık Ülker, Vice-Rector Olgun Çiçek and Secretary General Dr. Sualp Davut.

GAU CEO and Vice-Chancellor of Board of Administrators Dr. Asım Vehbi have stated in his speech during the meeting that Greece Ambassador of Democratic Republic of the Congo and embassy authorities whom visited TRNC under tourist visa via South Cyprus have emerged Congolese students in GAU and asked them to dismiss their education in GAU and depart from the island. Vehbi also asked Minister Özgürgün to undertake the necessary attempt against the attack forced upon GAU in specific but TRNC universities in general.

Vehbi, pulling attention to the change of dimension in the attacks against TRNC universities he also added that many new students from 74 countries have emerged GAU and also informed Minister Özgürgün about the academic developments and international GAU campuses.

Foreign Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün, during the speech held in the hosting, has stated that nevertheless the Greek side is about to face bankruptcy due to the economic crisis is yet endeavoring to undermine the developments in TRNC and also underlined that it is not acceptable for the Congolese Ambassador to false Congolese students in GAU with canards.

Minister Özgürgün also recognized the similar attempt of Greek Cypriots and Greeks on preventing tourist to arrive from Denmark and the news about Greek Ambassador whom pronounced to Norwegian Gazette for preventing tourists and also emphasized that as the Foreign Affairs Ministry they are pursuing preventive attempts against the education sector.

Özgürgün pulling attention to the anti-North Cyprus attempts of the Greek Cypriots in line with the economic crisis, he also added that “ We, as their neighbor, are in sorrow. We also contributed in their demand for electricity. Desperate times call for desperate measures but we see that Greek side is causing desperation itself. This has disappointed us. We as Foreign Ministry are well prepared for any necessary contribution.”

Özgürgün also stated that such behaviors by Greek Cypriots is causing no more than a tension amongst the Turks and the Greeks where there may be a possibility of enhancing relations in mutual values in line with any possible agreement. Özgürgün also stated that “There will be no harm on us. We are inviting Greek Cypriot’s to use their loaf and to produce methods of tolerance. There will be no solution found if behaved otherwise. We also expect Anastasiadis to act more familiarizing thus this will be beneficial for their own economies as well”.
