The PCG and Psychology Student Congress has commenced on 9th of March 2013 at GAU Cyprus-Girne Campus with presentations and conferences.

Mass Participation to the Congress by Many UniversitiesGAU reported that over 500 participants from PCG and psychology departments of Turkish Universities as students and also psychologists and academicians. Speakers have realized their presentations during the opening ceremony which was held in GAU Karmi Campus International Congress Center Spectrum Hall.

Kayıkçı: “A Significant Step Forward in behalf of Studentship”Founding Head of the Development Point and the President of the Congress Council Levent Kayıkçı has underlined that the first of this student’s congress evolved from an amateur level to a professional standard via the support of GAU. Kayıkçı also emphasizing the importance of uniting both departments has also stated that they are very happy to achieve this in GAU. Finalizing his speech he thanked GAU Rector Prof. Dr. Yıldırım Öner and Dean of GAU Humanities Faculty Assoc. Prof Dr. Süleyman Davut Göker and underlined that this is a significant step forward in behalf of studentship.

Göker: “The Difference amongst PCG and Psychology is like the difference between Been in Love and Love”Dean of GAU Humanities Faculty Assoc. Prof Dr. Süleyman Davut Göker has further explained in his speech that;

 “The discussions conducted by the academician for the last 40 years had been always was student oriented learning. I am glad to see that this national congress is led by students and student oriented learning is now visible. The difference amongst PCG and psychology is like the difference between been in love and love. Two departments which -near to but far -from each other. Both interact with each other. There is spirit of amateurness, romance and sincerity in this congress. You are the main actors of the congress been prepared for you. I welcome you all.”

Dean of GAU Faculty of Education Prof. Dr. Saadettin Yıldız:“In seconds we now able to communicate and talk and be heard in instance due to the communication age. Man can send signals to the deep ends of the universe only by a click. Each day technology leads us to a more complex platforms- force us to. Nevertheless mankind is in need to be in direct eye to eye contact. To see one’s face is important. We have no ability to resolve one’s inner world without the direct contact to his or her eyes. Technology as if is ordering us to look at the direction of its choice. Either to the telephone or the computer on our laps. We are constantly looking at somewhere. Yet we seek contact with each other. We need to solve the puzzle of our souls. More and more we become lonely. Thus we are unable to understand each other. Either of Guidance and Psychology department is due created. They have the responsibility to re-build the soul of the man. Mankind is in need to hear his inner voice and you are the one to lead this.”

GAU Rector Prof. Dr. Yıldırım Öner:“We feel very proud to welcome all you academician colleagues and dear students. Another honoring thing was that our students have come together to form such a board and undertake a responsibility to realize this congress. It is honoring to host such a congress. It is the first to realize a National Student Congress on both Psychology and PCG.  We are proud to realize this as GAU for the first time. I am supposing that this really fits the mission of our university.

This kind of congresses brings up the sharing of information in an age of swift changes. Even the best university lecturer is now not able to claim that he or she knows the best, because things are changing swiftly. Thus such congresses are emphasizing the importance of learning and sharing of information.”

President of Superior Intelligences Committee of Turkey Mehmet Hilmi Eren:“ I am very happy to be here. After a cold Istanbul, we love the warm climate of Cyprus. I am the founder  and the president of TÜZDER (SICT).  I have taken office in National Education as well. Here we have Psychologists and PCGs. I lecture at a university. Academician forward complains to me about the quality of the students. They complain about the curriculum of the senior high school education. They always cite the old times’ students. I have worked in senior high schools and there I listened to complains from the teachers saying that- haven’t the teachers in high school taught these students anything?-. I have spoken with the teachers in high schools and they are complaining about the primary school teachers and respectively they are complaining about the pre-school teachers where it all ended up complaining about the family teaching methods. Amongst all these discussions and complains the negative effect is on the children. In a vicious circle there are 2 fields in between of these discussions- Psychology and Psychological Counselors;  Breaking points. It is when these two departments are emphasized.”

GAU reported that the congress will continue with workshops and conferences and that it has been very fruitful for the departments of Psychology and PCG.
