GAU hosted the famous presenter İrfan Değirmenci and director Ertuğrul Albayrak under the content of social activities held under the 28th year in the higher education of 2012-2013 academic year.


The seminar of “The Actual” was held in GAU Cyprus-Girne Campus International Congress Center Spectrum Hall with over 1000 participation.


The famous presenter reported that he is a graduate of Journalism-Ankara University and he entered this department by chance. After graduation he had begun working in a private radio station, later transforming into a TV station where he experienced his profession, at Ankara. Değirmenci explaining further about his broadcast life has stated that “my turning point was the moment I had a say at Ali Kırca’s -Siyaset Meydanı- program”. He reported that his speech in the program was admired so he frequently visited Siyaset Meydanı. Later presenting news at Fox TV, Değirmenci underlined that he is been presenting morning news at Kanal D for 7 years with great passion.


Değirmenci answering the questions of the students and stated that his previous visit to Cyprus was 7 years ago and he emphasized that since than Cyprus has greatly developed. The question of how did they developed a difference in the presentation of the morning news as Kanal D, Director Ertuğrul Albayrak replied as “ the significance is the presentation. Of course the preparation is set behind the camera but the presentation by İrfan is always positive.  He reflects his energy topmost. Even though working through the agencies for long hours İrfan is determined to be lively at 06:00 am when presenting the news. I think that our main difference from other news channels is reflecting this liveliness. The main distinctness of İrfan is he presents news as if he speaks to someone face top face and he raises his critics just in that instance. For some this is noticeable”.


In his report to GAU TV İrfan Değirmenci stated that “Begin with there was a great energy inside. It was a professional organization and you have presented well. There was mass of students here and they asked very logical questions and we were on the ropes. Its obvious that we need to arrange another trip and we are very glad for the award. The short film was also pleasant”.


The result of “Best Morning News of the Year” questionnaire went to Kanal D Morning News and the Honor Rosette was presented to İrfan Değirmenci on behalf of the program crew by GAU Vice-Chancellor of Board of Administrators Olgun Üstün on  behalf of GAU global science family and finally İrfan Değirmenci collected his award of Best Morning News from GAU General Secretary Dr. Sualp Davut.
