A GREAT SUPPORT AND PARTICIPATION FROM THE RESIDENTS OF GIRNE FOR THE EVENT OF ONE BILLION RISING HELD UNDER THE SLOGAN OF “DANCE FOR OUR COMMON FUTURE”

The “One Billion Rising” event, which will be held simultaneously in the world in order to protest the violence and sexual abuse against woman is greatly supported by the residents of Girne.

We will gather at “Freedom and Equality Square” of GAU on 14th of February at 13:00pm for the “One Billion Rising” event to hold 1 billion woman to dance simultaneously worldwide in order to protest the violence and sexual abuse against woman.

The choreography of Turkey is been prepared by GAU Turkey Dance Academy, for the “One Billion Rising” event, which will be held simultaneously in the world like Lefkoşa, Girne and South Cyprus. The Girne leg of the “One Billion Rising” event with the support of GAU Performing Arts Higher school Dance department will be held on 14th of February at 13:00pm in “Freedom and Equality Square”. Significant statements were made by the Girne residents in accordance to the event through TV Aktüel Haber (TV Actual News) program.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Neriman Saygılı: It is indeed significant to realize the event on the 14th of February which is the day that emphasizes the love most. There is woman in every instance of life such as when bringing up a child or working in the field.  There is also a woman whom suffers unfairly. There is no imbalance of intelligence between man and woman but in means of power we inspect that a child, brother or husband can sadly and anxiously behave in violence towards women. As a woman to succeed in the community through education I firstly thank my mother and then my family. I wish that violence will reduce while love grows with the event to be held during the Valentine’s Day and also that dance and reactions against this violence will convey this message to those relevant people.

Feriha Dikmen: Firstly we say no for violence against woman. It is very pleasing that GAU gives countenance.  The violence against woman is yet continues despite the advance sing technology. I do believe that in respect to the increase in education violence against woman will reduce therefore women will stand up-right against the violence realized by men. Woman and man are equal in many aspects and thus I stand against for the violence not only against women but children and animals as well and support all the activities.

Gaye Temizer: There is violence against woman globally. It is like been born as woman is  -1 point on the score board due to the violence faced in work places or by husbands. Woman is a mother. I hereby do support this event.

Emine Şenyurt: We say no for violence against woman. No need to act violent against woman. It is a must for everybody to participate in this event.  February the 14th is indeed very meaningful date to realize this event. Not only woman but their husbands and men also must participate.

Gözde Özekler: Although we are in the 21st century many woman in our country and around the world is facing violence. Our women must not keep silent against this. I hereby consider myself honored  on behalf of all women, democracy, human rights and civilization to participate in the event to be held in GAU and world wide by 1 billion woman and be active in the event which emphasizes the rights and problems of women. I as a woman do support and thank for all.

Elçin Kesen: Although it seems that violence against women is reduced I believe this is not the case. Many women is facing violence nearly globally. I do support any event that stands against this.  I will be attending the event, in which one billion women in the world would dance against the violence, to be held in GAU “Freedom and Equality Square”. I as a woman do support the event.

Burcu Türermen: Violence against woman is very wrong. It is very pleasant event to protest against the violence faced by the women. We will participate to support.

Ceyda Menekşe: I say no and stand against the violence against woman. I am now 60 years old. Neither I nor my children have ever faced violence. I am extremely against this. I do really wish to participate in such an event.

Dilara Yıldız: It is very pleasing to see such events to prosper the topic of violence against woman. People need to show more attitudes against the problems of woman. Therefor we will support by participating.



Rasim Başer: It is very sad even to talk or realizing such an event about the violence against woman. Every responsible individual must participate in this event. I also support this. This is a social responsibility. It is very significant that this university is aware of this.

Hatice Gündüz: The violence against woman is considered only as physically. There is also the psychological aspect of violence. For me violence against woman begins psychologically. The disrespect against woman is the fundamentals of the physical violence. More significantly this is violence.

Mustafa Şanoğlu:  There are women in various places and in more severe conditions. I also support this event and I believe that this must always be emphasized.
