Girne American University, Faculty of Architecture, Design and Fine Arts organized whilst Chamber of Cyprus Turkish Architectures participated in the series of seminars namely “Architecture Facing World Problems” later continuing with Praxis: Can Architecture be Socially Responsible.


Head of METU Faculty of Architecture and Vice-Chancellor of Chamber of Turkey Architects Prof. Dr. Güven Arif Sargın have attended the seminar held in Girne American University Millennium Senate Congress Center as a spokesperson.


Prof. Sargın have emphasized in his seminar about “Praxis: Can Architecture be Socially Responsible?” that regarding the developments of architecture in the 19th century, within the concept of Praxis, have conceptualize architecture as a long term action of aims. Prof. Sargın emphasizing on communal mediators and the diversion between the daily architecture which been realized as a creative process and today’s elite architectural perception, also underlining that nowadays’ people are economic oriented and also added that architecture can only be rescued by the architectures realizing “praxis” which conveys a political aim.


At the end of the seminar which was highly participated by the Cyprus occupational means and universities, Vice Dean of Girne American University Faculty of Architecture Design and Fine Arts Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hosseyin Sadri have presented Prof. Dr. Güven Arif Sargın a plaquete of appreciation.

The final seminar of the year 2012 will be about Public Site and City participated by the Teaching Staff of Hungary Central European University Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jakob Rigi as a spokesperson on 28 December 2012 Friday at 10:00 am. The seminar to be held in Girne American University (GAU) Millennium Senate Congress Center will be open to public.
