Contributors to Turkish Cypriot Culture and Literature honoured by GAU

The Faculty of Education organized an honours night for the contributors to Turkish Cypriot Culture and Literature within the framework of Girne American University 30th anniversary activities.

 

The honorary night of Turkish Cypriot’s Culture and Literature which was held in GAU Cyprus Kyrenia Campus at International Congress Centre Spectrum Hall, was attended by GAU President of the Board of Trustees - Memduh Erdal and his wife Sevim Erdal, the Head of the GAU Health, Sports and Culture Department - Türkay Akpınar, Vice Chancellor of the Board of Administrators Cemile Esenyel, GAU Vice Rector and the Dean of the Education Faculty - Prof. Dr. Oğuz Karakartal and the Secretary General - Assist. Prof. Dr. Sualp Davut and academicians, the contributors of Turkish Cypriot’s Culture and Literature together with art lovers.

 

The opening speech of the night, when a plaque of gratitude was presented to the people that contributed to the Turkish Cypriot culture with their work and experience, was given by the GAU Vice Rector and the Dean of the Education Faculty - Prof. Dr. Oğuz Karakartal. Karakartal who emphasized that they performed this night in order to pay a little bit of appreciation and gratitude back and stated that; “In spite of everything, the efforts you real artists, painters, researchers in the way of culture, art and literature can be paid or no scales can measure it. The acceptance of the honour plaques that are to be presented from Girne American University on this night is a kind of compensation in this regard.”

 

The plaques were presented following the mini concert of Turkish Cypriot Philharmonic Polyphonic Choir which was conducted by of the Head of GAU Education Faculty Music Education Department - Dr. Ahmet Sönmezler, Prof. Dr. Osman Cankoy, Petek Cankoy and Yılmaz Taner and the show by GAU Performing Arts Faculty dance team.

 

The plaques given to the contributors of the Turkish Cypriots Culture and Literature, were presented by the Head of the GAU Health, Sports and Culture Department - Türkay Akpınar, Vice Chancellor of the Board of Administrators - Cemile Esenyel, GAU Vice Rector and the Dean of the Education Faculty - Prof. Dr. Oğuz Karakartal and the Secretary General - Assist. Prof. Dr. Sualp Davut.

 

On the night, the honour plaques of Late Founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş, Ali Nesim, late Suna Atun and late Bener Hakkı Hakeri were presented to their families. Other people who were presented with a plaque are as follows;
