Can I work while studying?
As per governmental regulations, students are allowed to work 20 hours per week part time. Students will need to register to a university first and obtain a student permit. After that students will be required to obtain a part-time work visa along with the student visa. This is done with the help of employer. An agreement on behalf of the student is signed between employer and the Work Permit Office.
How can my family visit me?
You will need to send your family a copy of your student letter and an invitation letter issued by the university. On the date of arrival it is advisable to go to the airport with the following documents: passport with your student permit, student letter and/or student ID card.
What activities are available to do during my free time?
Bowling: There are bowling alleys in both Girne and Lefkosa (Nicosia) which are open until late
Cinema: There is a cinema about 15 minutes walk from the university. The cinema shows recently released films, usually with their original sound track and Turkish sub-titles. The university also has a cinema club in which you can take part.
Go-Karting: There are two very good go-karting tracks just outside of Lefkosa (Nicosia). They are very popular with students at weekends and you can even get involved in competitions.
Horse Riding: There are several stables which offer horse-riding lessons, one is a 10 minute walk from the university. Some stables also allow people to take the horses out for rides in the local area.
Water Sports: There are lots of beaches which offer a variety of water-sports including water-skiing, parasailing, wind-surfing, and jet-skiing.
Boat Tours: During summer months you can join a boat tour along the coast and enjoy snorkelling and lunch on deck.
Scuba-Diving: A popular pastime for North Cyprus. You can enjoy scuba diving at many different ship wrecks and you may even get to dive with a turtle.
Wildlife Watching: North Cyprus has many unspoilt natural areas. It is possible to watch up to 350 different species of bird throughout the year and in summer you can have the opportunity to watch sea turtles come to nest on Alagadi Beach.
Hiking Tours: There is a monthly hiking group that many of the students join, but you can also arrange tours with several different centres around the island.
Restaurants, Bars and Cafes: There are a multitude of bars, cafes and restaurants in Girne and Lefkosa, and many offer discounts for students.
How can I get health insurance?
As of the 2005/2006 academic year all university students will be able to obtain health insurance from the TRNC Ministry of health. The fee for the insurance is 47 Euro and is valid for one year. The payment can be made directly to the university. The health insurance will allow the student to take advantage of the following facilities free of charge:

All emergency facilities that are provided by the public hospitals

Medical check-up (X-ray and blood tests) from the policlinics. MRE tomography medicine is excluded

Dental services

Medical surgery at all public hospitals and all medicines in case the student is required to stay in the hospital.
