Misyon :

Girne Amerikan Üniversitesi Turizm ve Konaklama İşletmeciliği Yüksekokulu’nun misyonu, okulun gelişiminde ve eğitimin kalitesinde sürekliliği sağlamak ve Turizm Endüstrisinde farklılık yaratarak profesyonellik düzeyinde lider konuma erişmektir.

Amacımız;

Öğrenci sayısında yaşanan artışı sürdürebilmek, 2009 yılından başlayarak, ilk iki yıl % 10, üçüncü yıl % 15 ve dördüncü yıl da % 20 oranlarında bunu gerçekleştirebilmek,
Öğrencilerin, sektörün ve Dünya Turizm Örgütü (WTO) TedQual standardizasyonunun gereksinimlerini karşılayabilmek için sürekli güncel müfredat ve programlar geliştirmek,
Kalite güvence sistemi yardımıyla, eğitim kalitesinde sürekli gelişimi sağlamak; uluslararası standartlarda, gerekli materyal ve kaynakların da kullanımıyla, akademik pesonel yetiştirilmesine de yatırımda bulunmak,
Turizm ve Konaklama İşletmeciliği Yüksekokulu’nun mevcut imajını daha da iyileştirmek için; kurumlar, sektör temsilcileri ve özel sektör işletmeleri ile uluslararası ve yerel düzeyde yapılacak anlaşmalar yardımıyla, işbirliği içerisinde gelişim sağlamak,
Turizm ve Konaklama İşletmeciliği Yüksekokulu akademik kadrosunun 2011 yılına dek minimum üç, 2015 yılına dek ise onbeş adet makale yayımlamasını sağlamak,

Mevcut durum ve öneriler :

Turizm ve Konaklama İşletmeciliği Yüksekokulu, okulumuzun resmi adıdır ve bu okul, Girne Amerikan Üniversitesi Turizm ve Konaklama İşletmeciliği Eğitimi’nin kendine özgü varlığını temsil etmektedir.
Alman Wilhem Knapp Schule ile görüşmeler gerçekleştirilmiş ve Alman öğrencilerin katılımı için ortak bir eğitim programı üzerinde çalışmalar halen sürdürülmektedir.
Sofra restoranlarının sahibi Hüseyin Özer’in katılımıyla, ünivesitemizin 25.nci yılı kutlamaları kapsamında bir seminer düzenlenmiştir.,
Girne Belediyesi ve Mimarlık Fakültesinin işbirliğinde “Girne’nin Gelişimi” konulu bir seminer düzenlenmiştir.
THM 411 kodlu dersin kapsamında öğrenciler “This is our Kyenia, where are we taking it / Bu Girne bizim, geleceği de” konulu bir konferansı başarıyla gerçekleştirmişlerdir.
Facebook sosyal iletişim ağında, Turizm ve Konaklama İşletmeciliği Yüksekokulu mezun öğrencileri için bir grup oluşturulmuştu ve yakında bu gruba katılım için üniversitemiz internet sayfasında bir link oluşturulacaktır.
KITOB, KITSAB, KITREB ve RESBIR ile “Kıbrısı Temiz Tutalım” kampanyası benzeri ortak projeler gerçekleştirilmiştir.
Okulumuzun Uluslararası Ağırlama Ödülü’ne “En iyi Ağırlama/Konaklama İşletmeciliği Programı” dalında adaylığı gerçekleşmiştir.
Öğencilerin stajlarının gerek iki, gerekse dört yıllık programlarda kredili bir ders olarak değerlendirilmesi için gerekli kriterleri barındıran resmi bir ölçütlendirme oluşturulmuş, standardizasyon sağlanmıştır.
Casin Yönetimi dersi, seçmeli olarak, Kıbrıs’ta ilk kez bir Turizm ve Konaklama İşletmeciliği Programı müfredatına eklenmiştir.
Dünya Turizm Örgütü (WTO) TedQual raporu gereğince, bir kalite güvence sistemi takımının oluşumun teklifi.
İki yeni Turizm İşletmeciliği programının teklifi ve ilgili gereken müfredat çalışmalarını gerçekleştirilmesi.
Karmi kampüsü öğrencilerinin bir kısmını İngiltere Canterbury kampüsünü ziyaretinin teklifi.
Turizm ve Konaklama İşletmeciliği Yüksekokulu için geçerli bir araştırmaya dayalı, bağımsız bir pazarlama kampanyası oluşturulması teklifi.
Turizm Bakanlığı yetkilileriyle Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti’nde Turizm ve Konaklama faaliyetlerinin ve ülke imajının iyileştirilmesi teklifi.
Akademik kadroda yer alan her bir öğretim üyesinin doktora sahibi ya da en azından bir doktora programına Eylül 2010 tarihi itibariyle kayıtlı olması ve öğretim üyelerinin aynı zamanda sektörde çalışmış, tecrübe sahibi olmaları. Bu durum, öğrencilere 2009 yılında yapılan bir araştırma sonuçlarına dayanmaktadır.

Turizm ve Konaklama İşletmeciliği Yüksekokulu

Turizm ve Ağırlama dünyanın en büyük sektörlerinden biridir. Birçok ülkenin Gayri Safi Milli Hasılası’nın % 10’unu oluşturur. Ayrıca, önemli bir istihdam kaynağı ve tüm dünyada döviz girdisi yaratılmasını sağlamaktadır.

Girne Amerikan Üniversitesi Turizm ve Konaklama İşletmeciliği Yüksekokulu, Dünya Turizm Örgütü’nün Turizm ve Ağırlama ile ilgili oluşturduğu ve uluslararası eğitim standartlarını belirlediği TedQual programına akredite olmanın haklı gururuna sahiptir. Ayrıca İngiltere merkezli Ağırlama Enstitüsü ve Genç Skal Kulübü üyesidir. Yüksekokulumuz, dinamik bir değişim göstererek bölüm statüsünden kurtulup, bir okula dönüşmüş, bu durum da eğitim ve öğretim açısından daha da önemli bir konuma ulaşmak açısından bir fırsat yaratmıştır.

Girne Amerikan Üniversitesi Turizm ve Konaklama İşletmeciliği Yüksekokulu sektör ile olağan bir ilişki içerisindedir. Mükemmel konumu itibariyle de, Turizm’de yaşanan tüm gelişmelerden haberdardır. Girne, on dokuzdan fazla sayıdaki oteli ve bölgenin sahip olduğu olağanüstü güzellikler nedeniyle Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti’ni ziyaret eden turistlerin % 75’inden fazlası tarafından öncelikli tercih edilen bir bölgedir. Bu nedenle turizm öğrencileri, sadece Kuzey Kıbrıs’ta değil tüm dünyada Turizm ve Ağırlama konusunda olası en mükemmel konum ve şartlarda eğitim ve öğretim görmektedir.

Yüksekokul, Girne Belediyesi, Kuzey Kıbrıs Otelciler Birliği, Kuzey Kıbrıs Acenteciler Birliği, Jasmine Court Oteli, Savoy Oteli ve benzeri birçok kurum ile yakın ilişki ve işbirliği içerisindedir. Öyle ki, öğrencilerin staj dönemlerinde söz konusu işletmelerde çalışmalarına ek olarak, Kat Hizmetleri ve Yiyecek Üretimi gibi uygulama gerektiren dersler, adı geçen kurumlarda gerçekleştirilmektedir.

Yüksekokulu, Millenium Park binasında yer almaktadır. Bina, Uygulama Mutfağı, Fidelio Bilgisayar Laboratuarı ve Konferans Merkezi gibi gerekli altyapı ve kaynakları bünyesinde bulundurmakta ve eğitimi öğretim hayatları boyunca öğrencilere öğrendiklerini uygulama imkanını sunmaktadır. Camelot Beach Club, yüksekokulun özellikle bahar ve yaz aylarında, Restoran Yönetimi ve Sürdürülebilir Turizm gibi dersler kapsamında faydalandığı önemli bir diğer tesistir. Spectrum Uluslararası Kongre Merkezi’nde öğrenciler, gerçekleştirilen konferans ve seminerleri takip edebilmekte, hatta kendi Seminer dersleri kapsamında her yıl yeni bir konferans düzenlemektedirler.

Yüksekokulumuz, öğrencilerden ve sektörden gelen talepleri de gözeterek, müfredatında yer alan dersleri, gerektiğinde güncellemektedir. Bu doğrultuda, Casino Hizmetleri Yönetimi, Yat ve Marina Yönetimi ve Havaalanı Yönetimi gibi dersler seçmeli ders olarak müfredata eklenmiştir. Yüksekokulumuz bünyesinde Gastronomi ve Çıraklık/Stajyerlik adları altında iki yeni programın da açılması gündemdedir. Yüksekokulumuzda; yaş, cinsiyet ve etnik köken farklılığı gözetilmemekte, bu nedenle de 45 farklı milletten öğrenciyi bünyesinde barındırabilmektedir.

Öğretim kadromuz, sahip oldukları akademik özelliklere ek olarak, sektörel beceri ve tecrübeye sahiptir.

Mezun öğrencilerimiz, sahip oldukları teorik ve uygulamaya dayalı bilgilerin yardımıyla, sektörde rahatlıkla iş sahibi olmakta ve bu durum Turizm ve Konaklama İşletmeciliği Yüksekokulunu özel kılmaktadır. Bu nedenle, eğer insanlarla çalışmaktan ve heyecanlı bir sektörde yer almak istiyorsanız, Turizm ve Konaklama alanı sizin için, Girne Amerikan Üniversitesi, Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti’nde, kesinlikle doğru bir seçim olacaktır.

 

University life is probably one of the most exciting experiences in one’s life; but to study Tourism & Hospitality is even more rewarding as today this is the largest industry in the world and further more one with the most international job prospects.

 

Girne American University, Tourism & Hospitality School prepares our students to be tomorrow’s leaders in industry, but with the ethics, values and respect required to work with international cultures and business styles.  Our students are trained on-site labs, taught the theoretical lectures in the highest technology class rooms and put to the test in the Girne region tourism sector.

 

Students have the opportunity to carry out internships in North Cyprus, Europe, America and East Asia.

 

The tourism school has a background with over 25 years experience, which has a very strong foundation and a future that has been clearly set out with the vision of the School team, Accrediting Bodies such as UNWTO and EURHODIP, the Tourism Sector and most importantly you the Students.

2- IHM 103 Intro to Business Management:
This course is designed to introduce the environment & historical setting of business; the organisational evaluation of business enterprise, both structural & legal; differentiation of business functions and the rationalisation of business operations. This course presents a systematic approach to front office procedures by detailing the flow of business through a hotel, from the reservations process to check-out and account settlement. This course introduces Fidelio OPERA module to students which is the most widely used front office programme in the hospitality industry. This course begins by presenting basic food safety and food defense standard operating procedures, and explaining why they are so important. 21- IHM 301 Tourism Marketing & Sales
This course is designed to help students understand the complexities of the relationship between marketers & customers, & to help them develop an understanding of how firms manage their relationship with customers. It tackles that task in three stages. In the first stage, an understanding of the nature of customers are developed. 24-IHM307 Hospitality Finance:
This course is designed to cover revenue management and its financial applications of the hospitality industry. It aims to teach the basic principles of both financial and management accounting as well as how to prepare monthly and annually financial budgets in hospitality operations. Class participants will develop the ability to interpret financial statements and construct cash forecasts, pro-forma financial statements and business plans.
