Serhat AKPINAR, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Girne American University (GAU), which makes preparations to open its Asia Pacific Campus Singapore after its UK campus Canterbury with its “3 Islands Single University Vision” in its 25th anniversary, was presented outstanding service award by Uzbekistan Tashkent State University of Economics.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Girne American University Serhat Akpınar was presented Honorary Acknowledgement Rank for the outstanding services he provided for the higher education after the International Higher Education Workshop (IHEW), in which more than 200 rectors and high level university administrators from 3 continents and 40 different countries as well as Chairman of Higher Education Council (YÖK) Yusuf Ziya Özcan.

The “Honorary Acknowledgement Rank” was presented to Akpınar, who was awarded with University Honour Medal by the Minister of Education of the term by the Uzbekistan Tashkent State University of Economics before, by Uzbek authorities with a ceremony. Receiving the award in national cultural Uzbek clothes, Serhat Akpınar took place in the Silk Road Higher Education project as well.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Girne American University Serhat Akpınar also put his signature to the “Cooperation Protocol” between Uzbekistan Tashkent State University of Economics and Girne American University that was in the international work program in Higher Education. Student exchange and cooperation and information sharing in scientific researches would begin in 2010-2011 academic year with Uzbekistan Tashkent State University of Economics with the agreement.

According to the written statement made from GAU, the signed agreement and the presented “Honorary Acknowledgement Rank” award were among the results of the International Higher Education Workshop (IHEW) and the importance of the Union of World Universities agreement, in which Chairman of YÖK Prof. Dr. Yusuf Ziya Özcan put his signature as the honorary president at GAU Cyprus Karmi Campus, for the higher education systems of TRNC and Turkish education system was pointed.

It was underlined that the “University Honour Medal” given by Uzbekistan Ministry of Education and “Honorary Acknowledgement Rank” that was given by Uzbekistan Tashkent State University of Economics were given to people and institutions that contribute to the development of both higher education of the world and for the development of the higher education of the world and GAU was leading the higher education of the world with its scientific information in its 25th anniversary of establishment as well.
