The students of Girne American University (GAU) student of the Faculty of Communication represented TRNC in the “YOU ARE SILENT” - 6th National Symposium of Communication Students that was held by Anatolian University every year. 17 of the 33 declarations of the symposium, which was held at Yunus Emre Campus of Anatolian University that is the biggest univesity of Turkey in communication, was presented by GAU.

17 GAU students presented their declarations in the symposium, in which “Daily Life and Communication” issue was discussed in details. Different universities of Turkey attended the symposium that was held with “You are silent” slogan and students from Yaşar University, Bahçeşehir University, Atatürk University, Ankara University, Istanbul University and Dokuz Eylül University attended the symposium as well as the students of GAU and Anatolian University. In the statement he made on the subject, the Dean of GAU Faculty of Communication Prof. Dr. Alpay Ataol said “I am pleased that our students showed an important success with a great self conficdence in the 6th National Symposium of the Communication Students that was held in Turkey. It is the sign of success that 17 of the 33 declarations of the symposium belonged to th students of GAU. Ur students prepared the declarations after a long time work. I am very proud of all of our students and my colleagues and I wish their success to continue.”

3rd place in undergraduate branch goes to GAU

The “You are silent” 6th National Symposium of Communication Students was important since the development of communication was discussed by young communication students. Student of GAU Faculty of Communication Ceren Yegen received the third place with the declaration she presented in undergraduate branch. Receiving the 3rd place with the declaration of “The affect of cell phone short message language on daily Turkish language”, Ceren Yegen said “I believe that I represented GAU in the best way. I would like to thank to the Dean of GAU Faculty of Communication Prof. Dr. Alpay Ataol, Dr. Turku Atker and to all f my instructors, who helped me to receive the prize.”

Alpay Ataol: “We broke down the prejudice for private schools” Since 17 of the 33 declarations of the symposium, in which “Daily Life and Communication” as discussed in details, belonged to GAU showed the high level of education of the universities of TRNC said Alpay Ataol, adding that “They considered us as a private school and they underestimated our level of education in the first days of the symposium; however they realised the level of the quality of the education we give as a result of the declarations we presented.”
