The 1st National Communication Students Symposium, which was held by Girne American University (GAU) Faculty of Communication, began. The first two sessions of the symposium, which was set off with the “It is our turn now” motto of the communication students, was given important attention by the students of GAU. Ali Baturay, Huseyin Ekmekci, Aysu Basri Akter and Birikim Ozgur also attended the symposium, which was given attention by the Turkish Cypriot press and academic environment.
The inauguration statement of the symposium, in which the problems of communication were questioned by young communicators, was made by the Dean of GAU Communication Faculty Prof. Dr. Alpay Ataol. Also making a statement at the media literacy, GAU Instructor Dilek Aydogdu and Kamil Kanipek shared the results of their researchers with the students. One of the 3rd grade students of the Girne American College (GAC) Alara Karabekir attracted the attention by expressing children’s point of view for media with her “TV from Children’s eye” essay. The communication students discussed the “Media and Artificial Identities” issue in the first session of the symposium, which was headed by Vice-Rector As. Prof. Dr. Tulin Bodamyali. The students touched upon the “Cyber Environment and Problematics” issue at the second session, which was headed by Prof. Dr. Alpay Ataol. The first two sessions of the symposium, which continued in question-answer format, was broadcasted live from GAU TV.
Advertorials and TV Programs effect on the society is discussed
“Popular Culture and Imposed Identities” issue was discussed at the 3rd session of the 1st National Student Symposium, which began on March 15, 2010, Thursday at 10 am. The students were given the attendance certificate at the end of the 3rd session, in which advertorials and TV programs effect on the society was discussed in details. The symposium, which has the advantage to be the first students’ symposium held in TRNC, is planned to be held again in the following terms. The Symposium, which was broadcasted live from GAU TV, was held at GAU Millennium Complex Senate Hall and it was open to public.
